I want to publicly recognize and thank Gary Dillard former steel player of the Kingsmen. It was Gary and his playing that got me interested in pedal steel guitar.

I'm talking about the Kingsmen Quartet, the gospel group. Chris, do you remember who the young man was that played steel for the Hinsons?

I'm not Chris, but it was Scott Sanders. The last time I saw the Hinsons they didn't even have a keyboard player, Scott and Kenny handled the leads, and they had bass and drums. They were a great group. I haven't been to a Southern Gospel concert in over 20 years, but I hear most of them use tracks now. Oh boy, Christian Karaoke.

Although I am not familiar with the gospel group, I knew you were talking about a different one than what I remembered - no steel in those guys! But that did not keep my brain from running the song over and over and over and....  |

i think lots of us had louie louie imbedded into our gray matter!
dan, i wasn't too familiar with the hinsons. but man, the high tenor(?) singer in the kingsmen was amazing. and the guy who told the jokes, what an entertainer. god loves a sense of humor! and gary's steel was great. can't imagine a gospel quartet without a piano, either.
any goup or artist singing to tracks loses my attention. |

That was one of the main reasons I went to Southern Gospel concerts, to see the bands. There were some great steel players, Johnny Cox with the Rambo's, Scott with the Hinsons, Jack Smith with the Goodman's etc. Guitar players too, Ernie Maxwell, Duane Friend, Duke Dumas, Paul DeLatore, these guys all gave me the guitar fever, and it still hasn't subsided after 45 years of trying.
