I went to download the ProTools 11 demo, created my iLok account, installed the software. So I try to run and now iLok wants $50 to let me demo ProTools, something I may or may not buy? Hell will freeze over before that happens. What a piece of crap.

ProTools is off my list of software DAWs, that's for sure.

My 2 cents, YMMV.

I use Sonar (I have the new Sonar Platinum). I'm not sure if they have a demo version.

I know Presonus Studio One has a demo version (full version) and it does not require iLok.

I actually bought Pro Tools v10, thinking that with the reputation it has with the pros, it must be what I needed. I don't even use it anymore. The learning curve is REALLY steep, even with some previous recording software experience. And it crams so much stuff in the workspace, it's hard to see what things are, much less use them for anything.

Now, I just use my old Adobe Audition v3 - it does everything I need - unlimited tracks, effects, etc.
