I remember a steel called PIERCE, from years ago. Don't know much about them, though.

Also the ABM Rodeo, which had a lot of fancy engraving on the end-plates, but only 1 knee lever. I think it was made in Germany.

i would interpret that as Zumsteel is no longer taking orders, much like Paul Franklin, both men have much success and want to retire from the manufacture of steel guitars and enjoy their retirement. dont blame them.

it is kind of odd these types of businesses are tied to one sole person - surely someone younger could step in and take over the 'brand'.

yeah. it seems to me that they could sell their business concept and machines and tools to someone who would respect the integrity of the brand. at least that would get them a little more retirement money.

i still have an '82 zum which is right around when zumsteel came into it's own on the market. it's a fantastic steel which i wouldn't part with as long as i can still pick.

Carvin Guitars in California built some pedal steels in the 60's.

Swedish brand AWH and later AVM. quite a few made in the -70ties.

I think Lone Star is Jim Flynn. And I THOUGHT Star was Flynn and Giles.

My understanding is that star is Mark Giles and Albert Talley, though that might have changed in recent years

I talked with Don. Zane actually started BMI in 1969. Tom Brumley and Zane Beck had an agreement from my understanding that Zane couldn't officially start selling his new brand until 1970.

Zane started building his new guitar under the BMI banner in 1969. I know by 1975 he had already built and sold 50 guitars.

Lone Star steels is Jim Flynn in Salado,Tx.
Star Steels was Mark Giles and Larry Agan. Larry passed last year, Star Steels is now Mark Giles in Hamilton,Tx

Right now I'd settle for a Lone Star longneck.

And then there's the guy who puts longhorns on his steels, and he's not even in Texas. Fess up, what's his name?

Mark, does Star make a six-stringer?

As you can see, production numbers are needed.
Accuracy is a goal, but be aware that an occasional error may exist.

fyi...franklin made aroud 300..someone stated recently.
also, jay roberts made some pedal steels in northern california back in the 70s/80s (?). also made the roberts version of the bigsby electric mandolin that tiny moore played.
