The browser is I.E. 11. The operating system is Win 8.1. The issue is that a lot of websites (google.com, mozilla, etc) wind up with security certificate warnings. I've look through probably a hundred links to find the solution. Nothing works. Any ideas?

we've tried the date reset, options resets, etc, nothing works.

Although I primarily use Win 7 and I.E.11, I have Win 8.1 Pro and have not noticed any certificate problems with I.E.11. I haven't had any problem on either OS with Firefox either.

I have the Win10 preview installed on one system and no problems there either.

IT is like the weather - it changes every day.
I still use Eudora as an email client (I know I should update but it doesn't embed anything and I am in charge) and suddenly about 2 weeks ago the SSL certificates no longer work.
Haven't found the answer yet but still looking.

From time to time, SSL certificates need to be updated, for reasons ranging from old one expired, to certificate was revoked. Also, there have been several versions of SSL in use over the years and some that were fine back when are extremely exploitable now. Those versions are disabled by browser (and possibly email client) makers as part of their routine updates.

Lately, a brand new SSL vulnerability began making the IT news. It is known as FREAK and was thought to only affect servers. However, researchers discovered that all versions of Windows are also exploitable via a specially crafted code that can be embedded inside a compromised web page, or ad. Thus, Microsoft will have to release a patch for FREAK. Server admins will be working overtime to patch and reboot their servers, many of which host hundreds of shared hosting accounts.
