I have a TV, but I don't have a cable for almost a year now, just watch a DVD sometimes. My steel playing doesn't have improved, though.

I plan to sell pills guarenteed to improve your playing.
You take one after each two hour practice session.
When you finish the bottle of 100 pills you will be a much better player.
I'm still building my Spam Deliverly Computer.

Good idea, Bob. I figure I am doing my part by not even owning one of the things. (Yes, one can indeed survive without the box.)

Yipes!, I figured by the name of this thread there'd be some nice pills for sale here that would make me a better steel player. Given the volume of e-mail I get for pills to solve a wide range of other worldly problems, I figured it'd be a natural evolution. But to turn off the TV? That would mean I'd have to turn it on and I ain't done that in a while. Too busy listenin' to steel CD's. |

Put a nonpedal steel on your lap when watching broadcast TV, mute the TV during commercials, and practice.
You'll be surprized at the amount of time you will get for practice. |

What about turning off the computer, as well?

Can't turn off the computer, it's at work. How else can I get in some quality goof off time other than by reading the Forum. |

Got a call from my kid's reading teacher in November that he wasn't reading. Calmly unplugged the box, carried it outside, dropped it on the pavement for good measure, then threw it away. Five pair of eyes got real big but no real health problems noted. Sometimes I come home from work and everyone is reading. |

The satelite TV is about the only English language communication I get, ceptin talkin with Crowbear.
And it also gives me some idea what's happenin in the olde sod (USA),
besides the forum of course... but Ah cait hear y'all from here.
I am also video editor and film buff. So this is a non-starter for me.
But I do practice a lot between forum posts. |

Did away with TV almost two years ago and don´t regret it. I was the kind that easily got hooked and spent the entire evening watching and with all the other chores that there are, I sometimes neglected my playing which was sad. Plus, over here, they make you pay monthly charges for it which have grown outrageously in the last years and I figured I´d rather buy some nice steel CD´s instead. Furthermore, I finally find the time to read some good book if I want to just relax. And yes, I practice more and my playing has improved since then.
Time to turn off this thing and get back to the guitar...

(I know it's too late for this now, but I worked for two weeks to make this happen--fighting a misplaced camera, the inherent clumsiness of the object pictured and all manner of computer obstacles--mostly Earthlink's inability to tell me why I couldn't--and still mostly can't--upload photos to my free webspace.)

Found this in (my birthplace) Oklahoma City, on a visit to the family in the summer of 2002 at Del City Music. (Del City is a SE suburb near Tinker AFB). Original tag was $995 but the salesman told me "today" it could be had for $500. Long story short, it took a little longer but after I returned to LA, I called 'em back and got 'em to agree to the $500 + tax price. I've learned (if nothing about pedal steel in the interim) at least a thang or two about a bargain. It needs a lot of expert setup. There's nothing really damaged or inordinately screwed with; it's just that it's well beyond my scope. (So is tying shoelaces, as far as that goes.)
It's serial number 0131, which Greg Jones says must be a Brumley/Bakersfield-era model circa 1969. One little trompe-l'oeil note: despite its blonde and walnut appearance, the apparent original stain is blue, from looking at the underside of the back panel (which faces the player's waist). Otherwise it's faded to the walnut color you see in the photo.
I sold a similar S-10 ZB (#0248) to Billy Knowles on eBay to pay for the D-10. Since joining SGF (late February), I've been amazed to track #0248 from Billy to Duane's Music in MO (or else he had a similar one that looked like 0248 very spiffed up) then to Dave Z and then to Henry N -- both in Northern California--the ZBoomerang as Larry Chung might say.
(Ever have an run of bad luck in a poker game around Oklahoma City, Michael?) I'd be happy to bring it by for an in-person inspection when you're up to it as your surgical recuperation may permit. This actually resides at CBS until budgetary clouds part and it becomes playable.
Update on Del City Music: I was back visiting a couple of months ago and they had an S-10 BMI but were asking $1400 for it.
