| I got my old Sho bud out today and I,m going to use it om a few gigs.I forgot how great it sounds.Original pickup and only one knee but I,m having a lot of fun.Not sure of the year,the wood neck runs all the way around the changer.Any Sho bud gurus out there.Thanks Jerry |

If the wood surrounds the changer, then it's late 60's-early 70's. Are the pedals closer to the center of the body, or closer to the keyhead?
Tuning hint… don't lube those barrels. You want the threads to stay nice and tight, since that's where they're tuned. But not so tight that you can't tune the thing…
And don't try to time your pulls…there's really no way to have 2 strings that share a rack to start moving at the same time. |

My 6139 has a two hole puller and nylon tuners. That tells me yours must be an earlier model.

Well...if you lubed them up really good to where they won't hold tune, you might have to unsrew 'em, wash all the lube off with hot water & dish soap and let them dry completely before you put it all back together.
The 6139 started being made in the late '60's, and was originally rack & barrel, coming from the factory with 3 pedals & 1 knee lever. Around '72 they moved the pedals closer to the keyhead, and added the metal changer surround. A little before '72, actually. The 6139 was unofficially known as a single neck Professional...which was their D10 model at the time.
In late '73 or early '74 (SB is kind of hard to pin down), they switched from rack and barrel to two-hole pullers and barrels. This would have been a round-front body and was known as the Pro 1. Shortly after that, the switched to the square-front body and started using the nylon tuners instead of barrels.
For a short while Sho-Bud had 2 single 10 models... they had the Pro 1, which came stock with 2 KL's and a Pro1 decal, and the 6139, which came with 1 KL, and no decal. Both models had square-front bodies/two hole pullers & nylon tuners.
They soon realized that they didn't need to have 2 models of what was basically the same gtr, and the 6139 was discontinued.
There were other variations along the way, mostly with the tone & volume pots as well as the tap switch. Some were on the back shelf of the body, and when they stopped having pots, the tap switch was moved to the endplate.
I'm sure there are other variations out there...that would be in keeping with true Sho-Bud fashion. |

| Skip,thanks for the info.I will have to wait and see if I got lube somewhere it don,t belong.I love the the sound of this steel.It has a volume and tone pot and a tap switch.It is in verygood shape.I may put a pic up.To me its like a vintage Tele.I think I will add E,s up and second string lower.Thanks again Jerry |

If it has rack mounts like these, it's a '67. Mine has wood wraparound changer, 6 pedals kinda in the middle, 2 right knee levers. It's down at James Morehead's for conversion to barrels behind 4-hole pullers.

| We had some cold weather down here this weekend ,65 Friday and 67 Saturday but the Sho bud stayed in tune all night,I was surprized. |
