Which pickup would you use?
I have the following narrow mounts and I want to
experiment with my Mullen RP. Which do YOU think would be the best
all-conditions pickup?
BL-705
G'L TW
G'L PF II
Mullen Single Coil
I know I should try em ALL but looking for opinions first

Which Pick up would you use
If you can get an original BL705 with the chrome surround you won't get a better pick up although I believe they are quite hard to source these days. Wallace Tru tone are also a great pick up.

Do you think the Topnealigner is as good as the 705 for tone?
I'm also not against having individual adjustable poles for each string,
but not if the Tonealigner isn't as warm or warmer than the 705.

I have 5 sets of pickups for my MSA's, and though it's not listed, I tend to lean toward the Alumitone.

MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, as well as some older MSAs, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Recently added a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored blue Rose, named the "Blue Bird" to the herd. Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic again that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also added a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks.

I've had some original 705 pickups in a couple of guitars, and I still sounded like "me". I have found by having MSA's with quick change pickups, that there isn't a nickels worth of difference in any pickup I've tried. There are so many variables in the signal chain, (cables, volume pedal, effects, amp with wildly adjustable EQ) that the pickup is only one component among several that creates your sound. Say what you will, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

An Eq pedal would be a better purchase, you can dial it all you like, our ears change all the time as us humans are constantly evolving with choices likes and dislikes... I use George L's because they are super quiet

Darvin has some good points. These things certainly vary from rig to rig.
I should say, for my love of the 705 it is based on two MCI guitars and one Emmons Legrande Skh.
I too have tried all of the geo L line up, Mullen and Emmons single coils and I still sound like me as Darvin mentioned.
To qualify, I was happiest with my tone, comfort, confidence, rig, and versatility of the rig(s) when using the 705.
The 705 tracks really well. The MCI D10 With original 705 recorded (to analog tape) better than anything else I ever used.
Clarity, across the range between both necks, the 705 never sounds thin and never sounds muddy. Less tweaking and EQ the better.

I understand exactly Bill, that's one reason I kind of gravitate toward the Alumitone it seems to have just a bit more clarity than the others, another reason is that Randy Beavers uses them (or did use them) so they must be good.
