Since joining this Forum about a year ago, I've noticed that a good many states have steel guitar conventions or jamborees at least once a year, some even more frequently. From what I can tell, the last time there was any such function in Virginia was June, 2012 (which was long before I got "bitten by the bug"), when Sid Hudson organized and conducted a very successful Steel Guitar Convention in the Richmond, VA area.
Recently several "steelers" from VA, MD, DC, and NC have inquired about having another such event. A few of us have already discussed putting together a "Team" to make this a reality. We all seem to agree that it will take at least six or eight dedicated souls to pull this off successfully.
I am now proposing that we have an initial planning meeting in early January 2015 in the Richmond area to lay the groundwork for a Steel Guitar Jamboree in the Richmond, VA area in the summer of 2015.
This is to request that ANYONE who is interested in helping to plan and conduct this Jamboree to "pile on" to this thread with your comments; also looking for suggestions from any non-volunteers. Samuel White has already provided some guidance, and Sid Hudson has agreed to give us startup advice based on his experience from 2012.
Awaiting comments from any / all Steelers in the mid-Atlantic region. Happy Holidays to all. Thanx.

Buck, count me in, I'm willing to help any way I can. I'm sure you can count on most of the players from Northern Virginia. _________________ Red Zum, Telonics Amp, and a Lexicon MK200 Effects. |

I am interested in the event. I am more of a lead player and I double on steel. I play with Human Country Jukebox. |

Buck, it was good to speak with you today. As discussed, I'll be glad to help anyway I can with coordinating an event for later in the year if there seems to be enough interest to move forward. Talk soon, Jeff |

I was hoping to have an initial planning meeting next Sat, the 17th, in the Richmond area. But with only two or three of us seeming seriously interested in moving forward with this initiative, I'm afraid it's a bridge too far at this time. If anyone else is able to generate more interest than I have, go for it. And please keep me in the loop as an assistant. Thanx.

Thanx for your response, Jan. I'm sure we would get a huge attendance. But the planning and coordination for a world-class Jamboree will require about eight dedicated souls for about 3 or 4 months of effort. That is the current shortfall in pursuit of this goal. If I can get a relatively-local planning "Team" together within next couple weeks, it could become a reality. If not, maybe we'll try again next year. Thanx again.
