Houston Lap Steelers
If you are in the general Houston Tx area, sound off!
Regardless of level.
Might as well include that too.
I am in the Belt way and 249 area, and have been playing almost 4 years, but still not well.

Houston Area Lap Stedelers
I am next to NASA/JSC area, grew up in the Clear Lake/Galveston Bay area. Started playing over 69 years ago. I listened to Herb Remington; when told me never give up my day job, ha.
Leon McAuliffe and I had took lessons from the same guitar teacher [Ladis Marek]; neither one of us really cared for the Alkire Eharp lessons, but I still enjoy listening to the late Claude Brownell and others that could really play it.
Thee were over a dozen above average steel playersH in the area back in the late 30's/early 50's.

There probably are more. Try waiting a few days. Not everyone gets on the Steel Guitar Forum two days after Christmas.

Bill at least we are fortunate to have several players that double on lap, resonator and pedals. Contact Billy Phelps in Katy Jim Bates in Alvin & or Bay Area Bluegrass Assoc. in League CiHty; all in the Houston area.

Let's move this to Steel Players and see if you get a better response.

Might be a good idea, Brad - I just acquired a nice BMI 3+3, so I really need a bunch of help with that, but don't have anything to offer in that arena.Brad Bechtel wrote:Let's move this to Steel Players and see if you get a better response.
Just learning some ways to play a harmonized scale, and where the chords are.
At least with the lap steel, there might be some quid pro quo

I'm in the Heights. Been playing lap steel for about seven years (I think, but don't quote me) but only seriously for 2.5 years. My main rig is a Goldtone through a GK MB-200, and my main gig is with Umbrella Man here in Houston (taking over from the much more adept Bart Maloney, who I believe is also a member of the forum). It's always good to hear from other Houston players.
