Is there any web sites out there where you can easily find what Steel Players played on specific songs or for artist. Everything I find seems hit and miss? It also seems in the iTunes age it is more difficult to find the musicians on a recording.

That's the best I have found so far, although it is not 100% or even close to it. On many occasions I have looked up a given song, only to find the credits consist of "_______, primary artist" and nothing more.

The problem is you get 100,000 hits and maybe 1 is relevant.

I do not know of any that would be 100% accurate. Sometimes an artist song is cut several times and different steel players may have been used. Most list I have seen are not complete, that is they don`t have all the artist songs on them, or they may not have all the songs a certain steel player recorded. The one I use most often is at www.louisvillesteelguitar.com. They have a list by Artist, or by Steel Players.

Oh well, as with everything else in life, nothing is perfect. I still find it useful, there's plenty good of information there.

I just did a search for "Chris Ivey" and clicked the first hit:

If I click on one of artists listed, then click the credits tab:

So if you were wondering who that was playing dobro and steel on "Don't Forget the Trains", allmusic will tell you (and the late, great Erik Kleven on bass too).

Good Morning Niels,

You may want to try my website http://www.austriansteelguitar.at.tf/

I run a listing of songs with artist and steel player, as well as an album list with the names of the steel players appearing on that album. Of course very far from being complete, but you might find what you are looking for.

On the website click on the "Information" Link and there you go!

Best Regards, Walter
