The Mullen manual states in re changing strings...3rd string....let the string lap over itself toward the front of the guitar. Letting the string lap over itself will cause the string to break. Which is it?

I always do the lap-over and I don't get slippage or breakage either.

I do the lap-over early, so several turns follow.

huh?

what has worked for me over 40 years is pull the string through the peg hole, make one wrap, cross over to the other side for as many (usually 2 or 3) as it takes to tune it up to pitch. i tighten up to pitch quickly and generally have no problems unless you've gotten a bad batch of strings.
