1973 Sho-Bud Pro-II 8x4 (price drop)

Post by Duane Reese »

I'm selling a Sho-Bud Pro-II, serial number 5906. It has Wallace Truetones and John Coop pull rods (except for two). It's in pretty good condition for its age (usual stuff like some laquer checking, minor bar dings pedal rod scratches, etc. but it's by no means hammered). It looks great on any stage you put it on. Two of the legs are stock and two are from Mars of Madison, so the knurl pattern on the clutches are different. It has the 2-hole puller system with brass barrels, which is the system to have among Sho-Buds. This guitar sounds incredible, and the Truetones really bring out the Sho-Bud quality in the tone, as much as any Bud I've ever heard.

It's in a split-case setup. The main case is a flight case with wheels. It needs to have more velour padding added to the apron sides, as there is some play in that direction (see the purple arrows). When it ships, I will make sure that there is plenty of padding so that it's not knocking around in there, but the next owner will need to get a more permanent reinforcement for the case. I also had to shorten the toggle switch so that it would fit. The pedal bar case is an old Fender or something, missing the handle, and with a broken latch. A matching pedal bar case might be a good thing to get for this guitar.

Trades?

Post by Andy Eder »

Hi Duane,

Pretty guitar. Before I ask questions, are you considering trades?

Thanks,

Andy,

The only things I can think of that I might do a partial trade for would be a stereo compressor, spectral processor or 4-track cassette with individual outputs. Aside from that, it must be the good ol' Federal Reserve Monopoly money.

Thanks anyway, Skip. The only reason I thought about a 4-track cassette with 4 outs is to dump a bunch of cassette tapes I have in half the time. I used to have a couple black-face ADATs long ago.

That's ok, Duane... I was kidding.
Happy Holidays to you & good luck with the sale of that very cool Bud.

btw... those ADATS make great doorstops...

Duane,

I'd love to have this guitar, but funds are low at present time.

I know ShoBud built some of their guitars with very exotic wood(s) that are now considered endangered species (or something of that sort). Do you know what type of wood was used on this guitar?

Also, I went to the post where you have the additional pictures. On one the changer end pictures, there are two nylon tuning nuts rather than the hex tuners at the end plate. Can you tell me what this is all about?

This is a ShoBud guitar I'd be very interested in at some future date.

Thanks,

Don

The body is not endangered, it is curly maple.

Brian,

Pull the trigger and buy this guitar! To have an endorsement by Ricky Davis is really all you need (and some money to purchase it)!
