Is it a LeGrand or push pull?
The push pull is pretty straight forward by looking at it but I believe the LeGrand, you have to take off back apron. Can't remember if they are spring loaded or not. I did one but was Years ago.

No, there is no back apron to take off the LeGrande. The cross shaft on a LeGrande is held in place with a spring and metal dowel on the back side of the guitar. If you contact Lynn Stafford he can tell you how you can try to carefully pull the shaft foward and slip something between the shaft end and body of the guitar and cut the pin then you can remove it. Most just cut the cross shaft in half and replace it with a new one when they're finished doing whatever they need to do.

Its a Emmons Lashley Legrand. I need to get to the screws that hold on the key head which are under the cross shaft.

Steve, I think you can get at all those screws except the pair closest to the changer. Those are, under the knee lever cross shaft that you can move by removing the bracket screws.

Thanks Dave, got it mixed up with an MCI.
Those spring loaded cross shafts are a bugger to get out or was for me anyway.
Jack, last LaGrand I re built, I was able to get the screws out with removing cross shaft with a smaller Phillips screw driver with some effort I might add.

A few years back I took apart completely a D10 Legrande for full cleaning and lube. Uh..but not the cross shafts. When I got down that deep into the project I was actually quite disappointed about this. I made a few calls to those in the know and they all said..leave' em be...

Steve, it is best to cut the shaft. If you cut near the rear end of it that end can be turned on a lathe and reused with an "L" bracket. On later model LeGrandes the shaft was made about 1/8" shorter so more of the dowel was exposed. On those you can work the dowel back into the shaft and pull the shaft without cutting it out.
