| Is anyone familiar with or knows who builds this brand of steel. Ricky Davis has pictures of this beautiful guitar on his "House of Woods" website. There are several steels in the collection of pictures, with the comment that they are going into production. |

Tom, thanks for the kind words on the guitars. I have never owned commercially built steel and have always built my own since 1958 starting with adding a pedal to a Fender Stringmaster. When my good friend Dick Miller (builder of the Bethel Guitar) passed away a couple years ago, I purchased some of Dick’s equipment. My son who builds flat top guitars and I decided we would specialize in a custom lacquer hand rubbed single neck pedal steel on a 9 ¼” wide body.
The single frame red steel on Rickey’s site was the 1st. That was followed by the rosewood and maple on a double frame. We since designed the new steel without the normal step as found on most double frame steels. We are also using rectangular aluminum 5/16 X 5/8” cross shafts which will help reduce a little weight. We also made some other changes from the norm and are presently checking these out on our prototype guitar to determine functionally. We hope to have the design etched in stone by May and have our guitar on the market by mid summer. If anyone is interested I can send some pictures.

| Thanks Frank. Wish I could make the show this year in Grand Rapids but I have to stick close to home till my detached retina heals up. I always look forward to the show and this year should be a great one. Frank,Evelyn and LT are some of the nicest folks on the planet. |

For what its worth, a steel built by Dan would be my next choice if I had to have a new one. A great piece of work from a true artist.

Dan, I had a detatched retina in about 1954 or so, when I was milking cows & playing square dances or something on Sat nights. The quack I went to didn't even know what it was & I lost the vision in that eye. Maurice told me I'd never have a problem with Paralax! I'd like to be able to play one of your S12s tuned Bb6th like Maurice, Bud or Junior! I just got a lay off as of April 7th,
being unemployed, maybe I better come down & see you. |

I have played two of Dan's guitars and they are dyn-o-mite. Gorgeous workmanship and detail. Dan is a true craftsman and a great guy to spend an afternoon with.
Take it easy and get well, old buddy. Hope to see you in Michigan next year. I'll have further to come than you (moving to Florida) but I plan to be there.

Doug sorry to hear about your experience with the detached retina. Mine detached 3 times so far this year and the Dr finally did the laser to hopefully stick it.
Larry I bet you wont miss the snow. It wont be long till your in the Florida Hall of Fame. A good friend that I played with from Buffalo, lives in Dayton and still plays 2-3 nites a week and is looking for a steel player. His name is Happy Mann and the band name is North Country. Good luck on the move |
