Since I'm wretched on C6 I'm planning on selling the D-10 and getting a 12 string E9 guitar. The tuning chart as it stands:
pulls
LKL LKV LKR P1 P2 P3 P4 P5 RKL RKR + -
1 F# | | | | | | | | | G | | 1
2 Eb | | | | | | | | | E |D/C#| 1 1
3 G# | | | | | A | | | | | | 1
4 E | F | | Eb | | | F# | | | | | 2 1
5 B | | Bb | | C# | | C# | A | | | | 2 2
6 G# | | | | | A | | | | F# | | 1 1
7 F# | | | | | | | | | | |
8 E | F | | Eb | | | | | | | | 1 1
9 D | | | | | | | | | | C# | 1
10 B | | Bb | | C# | | | A | | | | 1 2
11 G# | | | | | A | | | | | | 1
12 E | C# | | | | | | | | | | 1
I thought having five pedals would be nice but don't have anything yet for that fifth pedal.
thanks,
Drew

Drew,
I can think of only one suggestion for the 5th pedal with your suggested setup:
1. Move pedals 2 through 4 to the right one postion respectively.
2. Lower the G#'s to G on Pedal 1.

oops just thought of one more.
1. Lower the bottom G# to F# also, with RKL.
2. Split both these F#'s (6 and 11) with the B pedal to get a nice sounding A7th.
3. Tune the new pedal 1 as above so you get a pretty E minor chord.
Note: the G's are tuned to slightly different pitches in step 2 and 3.

Carl,
Thanks for your ideas. Lots of food for thought.
Don't know if I'll need the G#>G lower, I had that on a guitar and never used it. BUT, I like the idea of lowering both G#>F#. All those changes would make the lever pretty stiff. What about putting the 1st and 2nd string raises on pedal 5?
Last I checked the Mighty E put his 1st string raise on a pedal.
thanks again,
Drew

Drew,
I think you have a typo on your RKL: shouldn't it read 1-F# to G# instead of G?
Carl's suggestion for P1 makes a lot of sense (as always), but LKL and LKR would have to be moved farther to the right so that you can reach them comfortably.
You might want to consider using P5 for the Mooney change 4-E-F#, to be used with your right foot.

Hi Rainer,
Thanks for your comments! That isn't a typo
on the RKL, I'd only want to raise F# to G.
Ideally I'd have a half-stop on it so I could I raise F#>G>G#.
As for the E>F# raise, I know a lot of players use this. Guess I'll have to think about that one, too.
So far:
LKL LKV LKR P1 P2 P3 P4 P5 RKL RKR
1 F# | | | | | | | | G | | |
2 Eb | | | | | | | | E | |D/C#|
3 G# | | | | | A | | | | | |
4 E | F | | Eb | | | F# | | | | |
5 B | | Bb | | C# | | C# | A | | | |
6 G# | | | | | A | | | | F# | |
7 F# | | | | | | | | | | |
8 E | F | | Eb | | | | | | | |
9 D | | | | | | | | | | C# |
10 B | | Bb | | C# | | | A | | | |
11 G# | | | | | A | | | | F# | |
12 E | C# | | | | | | | | | |
cheers,
Drew

Check my tuning at my web-site http://julianwinston.com I've been using an extended E9 for a long time. Off-hand, I'd find a way to lower the G# to a G and raise the G#6th to a A#.
Use those two a lot.

I use the change where you raise the 5th string to C# and the 6th string to A#. You can get a whole bunch of swing flavored things with it as well as E9 stuff. Try it with the E/s lowered and also in the basic tuning. You can get a nice 7th chord move by sliding back two frets as you engage this pedal. Gives you the same thing as lowering your root (E) on the 4th string a whole tone. Also with your E's lowered you can play things like "Raisin' the Dickens" and some other classics with this change and your D (9th) string. Have a good 'un..JH

I am working on an extended E9th tuning setup myself. I have a question for you.
Whey don't you raise the 12 string to an F with your LKL along with the other E to F raises. And then use your RKR to lower the 12th string to a C# along with the other C# lowers? That is what I'm planning to do.

I like that too, so much that I used it as P3 on my 3-pedal E9 for many years.
But now I think I get that and more using just middle G# -> A# on "pedal 0". b0b has my 3-pedal Sho-Bud and Franklin at http://b0b.com/tunings/ebovine.html

Great to hear from you Winnie, your steel guitar book is a classic. For finding minor chords I got in the habit of moving up to the relative maj6 chord. I had the G#>G change on a single 10 but never used it.

Jerry, I like that pedal 7 change, too, there's another way I can get that chord so I left it off. This change appears now and then when I'm charting my "dream" Ext E9 tuning.

Hey Erv, thanks for your thoughts on this. I like to leave the low E alone and use it as a root note. So I don't want to raise or lower it too much. BUT, putting the boo-wah on the RKR is a good idea!
Thanks everyone!

If you put on a P0 with your existing setup you could also do the "Paul Franklin" change on it (5,6, and 10 down a whole step) Makes a nice counterpoint to A+B pedals. |

Paul,
I am splitting the pedal 4 changes between pedal 4 and RKL, it gives me more options (Tommy White does this). Pedal 0 is a good idea, and it makes sense to have the A+B pedals in the middle, shortening the distance my foot would travel. Don't know if this old dog could re-learn his pedals, though!
thanks,
Drew
