No favs, play what I can afford, that will still work. Mostly Peavey Amps, but I'm not locked into that. Try a search on "Beginners Notes". :D

I'm in Toledo, been playing since late 70's but not full time for many years. These days it's my favorite instrument to play, guitar 2nd. Just recently was relieved of my duties in a local C&W band as the singer couldn't hold a note and blamed my intonation!?.... It's ok, modern C&W music has very little steel anyway. Always looking for an outlet to play.
Red Emmons D10 fatback #2246D with sweet Hugh Briley split cases, Black Emmons S10 #1466S, '73 Fender "Snakeskin" Twin Reverb, Peavey Nashville 400, Line 6 Pod XT, Fender 400, Fender Stringmaster Double-8, too many guitars, one bass!

Here in Medina, OH. I have 2 D-10's, a U-12 and a S-10 in storage in WV. Hilton products and Peavey electronics. I've always said that I do not do any lead singing because there are already too many people that can't sing but do. The world doesn't need any more.[/quote] :)

I cannot call myself a steel player. ( I've got three or four chord positions and a few licks.) But I stay and work a half hour south of Canton and willing to jam. Rick at Hummingbird Music is a good source of steel guitars and accessories in the area. Good teacher too if I could ever swing free during the day to get on his schedule.

John Erhardt

Post by Frank Freniere »

Just saw a Cincinnati-based band called Wussy on a CBS-TV morning news program. They have a John Erhardt on steel. Anyone in OH know him? Couldn't tell if hew playing a Maverick or some sort of Fender S-10 with an ash-tray keyhead.

I am originally from Athens and now live in Middleport. I worked almost 20 yrs playing steel including 12 yrs. at Renfro Valley as the staff steeler. Don't get to play much anymore, there is nothing going on around here. Havent been to the jam in Columbus in over a year because of work. Those were a lot of fun!!!!

Steel players in Ohio

Post by David Zornes »

Hello-welcome aboard. I started playing around 1976. I got a call saying that a Johnnie Lee wanted a steel player. I worked with the Opry circuit and Hee Haw;and places I should not have been in. I left the secular side of that, and now I now pastor a church in Middletown, I play my steel in church. I have a Sho Bud Super Pro, and a Dekley slim line. I use a Fender Steel King and a Webb.

John,

Seeing that you are in Columbus, you should contact Gary Preston (the OSGA President)... if you haven't already... MANY great players in your area. Here's the link to the most recent jam.

Sure ! That's why I started this thread Jerry. I got out of steel for a couple years
and sold my Emmons, now I bought another guitar and am hoping to get with some local
fellas to swap licks and trade tricks.

Speaking of PSG players from Ohio; does anyone remember Bennie Gabbert who had a music store in Lebanon Ohio near Middletown? I bought my Maverick and then later on a S-10 from him in 1972-73.
