Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

A deep loss here...Jan and I went to school together and were best friends. He got me my first job in a club in Temple, Tx. Jan, Don Crum, Van Necessary, Gaylon Simmons, and myself all went backroading around Gatesville,Tx. just last week. I still can't believe this....

Unbelievable.

I worked with Jan in the "Nashville Cats band".

What a great guy with a fantastic attitude!

I already miss him.

As for the rest of us, we need to enjoy each other as much as we can with the time we have left.

I always enjoyed my talks with him. He had such a good attitude and was the same every time you met or talked to him. A true friend and a great drummer. He loved the Steel Guitar and it's players. I will miss him like all that knew and loved him.

I am very sadden to hear this. I met and played with Jan in 1959 at the Pioneer Club in Temple Texas along with Roy Robinson (Robbins), Sammy Blevins. Jan was a great drummer, extremely nice person. I will talk with Doyle Grisham tomorrow and find out more info if it is available. Best wishes for Kathy.

I was at a total loss for words when I got a call from Pat Coyne this morning. Jan & I have been friends since the early 70's.We worked several times together. We even did an album together, back in the mid 80's. We were scheduled to have our monthly NTSGA meeting tom'w (Sun.) evening. V.P. Cookie Jones informed me that it will go on,as scheduled. Needless to say,we will have MUCH to discuss!! Keep Jan's family in your thoughts.

Albert Talley, President of the Texas Steel Guitar Association has asked me to post the condolences of the TSGA. Jan was greatly loved and appreciated by the TSGA and will be greatly missed by all. May the Lord extend comfort, strength and peace to his family at this very trying time.

I just spoke with Brenda Allen, the young lady Jan played the gig with last night. She said Jan played great and seemed to be having the time of his life. Jan and I had a few discussions about life and death over the last few years. I am comforted knowing he was happy and played great his last night with us here on Earth. I can hear him say it. "That's all a feller could ask for. You know it?" Rest in peace my dear friend. All my prayers for Kathy and the rest of the Family.

Words can't express how much I'll miss Jan Jones. I remember in 2004, when I first played at an NTSGA Superjam, he'd put me onstage, playing beside my friend Russ Hicks, and then in 2006, he called me on the telephone to ask me to play the October show. At that show, Jan wanted me to play a four song set, because I'd never played a four song set. Jan was a great musician, a great drummer, and a great friend. RIP, Jan. You will be missed.
