I had one of these and was stolen in NYC years ago. Does this have the toggle switch that made the pickup single coil and volume/tone knobs on the deck? Anyway, hoping to sell my Derby D-10 and pick up a single neck. If this is in good working order and stays in tune well I'd like to check it out. I'll post my Derby and see if I get any bites. thanks Marc

Hello Marc; it does not have any knobs or toggle switches mounted in the wood at all. However, it does have the pickup toggle switch mounted near the input jack on the tuner endplate. The Sho-Bud is in good working order, and stays in tune well!

Good luck on your Derby sale!

Hi Chuck here's a pic of my 'Bud
Image

Chuck, I think it could be a 6140 because it has a pedal bar set up for six pedals( 3 removed) and converted to a 3&4.

Sorry about that Willie; I just got your personal message and will reply!

Not sure what's going on with the email?

I've checked it out on my forum account, and everything looks ok, but obviously somethings wrong?

Will investigate further, Regards: Chuck

Hello Dana; that's way cool, thanks for posting the photo!

I was kind of wondering about something, although I am getting old so I thought maybe I was just confused? Anyway your mentioning the pedal bar set up, stimulated some mis-firing synapses in my brain.

Well I went and took a look and wholly-crap, sure enough; I have the same pedal bar set up as you: (set up for six pedals)!!!

At this point, the old noggin was starting to get in gear! I flipped the steel over in it's case, and lo and behold: plugged holes a plenty! You can clearly see where all the hardware was for the six pedal set-up!

Of course I now remember, I knew this all the time! What I've got here then is a model #6140!

Thanks Dana for jogging my old memory!

Question for the experts: did they do these conversions/modifications at the factory, (after the fact), because the could sell a lot more E9 single necks than C6 single necks or?

Dana it would be nice to see photos of your pedal steel's undercarriage (PG-13 please) to compare to these photos of mine.

PS: our steels were both made during the same week in October of 1973!

Thanks again Dana, Regards: Chuck

Hey Chuck, my pedal bar looks exactly like yours!Yours looks cleaner though. I think that back in the day some guitars were set up with just 6 floor pedals for the C6 tuning and some were set up like this with just 6 floor pedals for the E9 tuning. Mine was converted to a 3&4 at a later date. I bought mine as a 3 pedal and 2 knee levers with the E's on the left.I later had two more knee levers added later. The extra holes have not been filled,so you can see the evidence of conversion.

Dana, you're correct, some of the 6140s came set up as E9. My first steel was a new '73 rack-and-barrel 6140 with 6 pedals and 2 knees. It was E9, stock from the factory. I only had it for a couple of years but I still have the original paperwork with the tuning, etc.
