I have a 1968 fender twin reverb amp that I just recently had split(the head from the speakers). I'm experiencing earlier breakup(overdrive)and had a technician check out the head which he said is fine. I'm told the speakers are original and are old and tired and the cause of my problem. The cabinet has 2-12's. Can anyone recommend replacement speakers? Thanks in advance, Dale |

I ordered a new Twin Reverb in 1967 with JBL's and I feel they can't be beat. |

Or if you want to go lighter weight & still have that great sound you could try 2 of the Telonics 12" Neo speakers.
Yes, they are now available in 8 ohms on the 12" speakers so you can put 2 of these in a Twin & get the 4 ohm total load the Twin wants to see.
Here is a link with some folks talking about the Telonic speakers.
Enjoy the reading & my best to you.

We need to turn the TWANG up a little
It's not what you play through, it's what you play through it.

Hey Tim,
What is it that you find so similar about the Jupiters to the JBL's?

Of course it's subjective, but I agree with Erv. A pair of JBL D120Fs would be great if you can find them at a reasonable price. Like Ron said, Telonics are really nice neos. Unfortunately, I ran into the problem Tim mentioned. The frame diameter is larger than the original Twin's speakers. One fits my Twin cabinet just fine, but the other hits the side of the cabinet. Weber neos are another option. They are made as a replacement for the JBL D120s. Jensen makes some neo 12s that fit, too. |

Thanks so much for the replies and advice gentlemen. Tim, I will definitely checkout the Jupiters. I'm also considering Black Widows. Just wondering, has anyone paired up a couple of 1201's with a Twin head? Thanks, Dale |

Sensitivity and build quality
Traditionally I have been anti weber, however they sent me a pile of speakers recently to woo me and I have to admit that the build quality is much higher than it was a few years ago. Their D120 copy sounds nothing like a real D120 though. Nothing does - so if you wanna go that route you'll need to dig through old stock. And then you'll run into the cone problem - no original cones left, and the company who made them is long gone.
Some recones are better than others - do the research, or skip the research and trust me on the Jupiter large ceramic _________________ Milkmansound.com |

Not a good idea. I had a pair of black Widows in the Music Man at one time. The amp sounded great, but the extra weight of the Black Widows brought the weight up to 104 pounds. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Maybe Jupiter Neo's in the future?
That would be nice...if it ever happens. |

I wonder if Jupiters are made by WGS? |

they are assembled by WGS to Jupiter spec. If you look at the spec sheets, you will see there is quite a difference in the sensitivity. _________________ Milkmansound.com |
