I recently purchased a 1957 Gibson Ultratone body that had been gutted of all its original electronics. I have determined that this instrument was most likely outfitted with a PAF humbucking pickup.
As was standard practice for Gibson with its Ultratone lap steel guitars, it was originally fitted with a single volume and two tone controls.
Since this particular instrument cannot be returned to original condition without considerable expense (anyone priced out an original 1957 PAF Gibson humbucker lately?) I am not adverse to a reasonable amount of experimentation as to pots, capacitors, and wiring, etc. in an attempt to obtain the utmost out of the humbucker/volume/tone/tone configuration. I don't wish to drill any extra holes or install anything that would require modifications to the body.
Anyone have recommendations, as to pots and caps, appropriate values, brands, and sources etc? Anyone know of a website or another resource that contains more info on the subject of guitar pickup wiring, especially as would apply to a humbucking pickup with one volume and two tone controls? |
