How easy is it to change PSU on a Zum ?

i'm in the process of gettin' a Zum D10 1983 model
how easy is it to change PedalSetUp on 'em ?

Does not get much easier than that.
I only have a S12 7+7 ZumSteel and I more or less removed/reinstalled all pullrods (total of 30 rods) in less than one day. Just make sure you have new strings on before you start to position rods and syncronize pulls.
Start w cross-shafts closest to changer and install raises first. Figure out how many raises you have on each string before installing pullrods to avoid crossing rods.

Made a couple of changes on my '86 Zum, very easy.

[Edit: I might add that my Zum is my first real PSG.]

You are going to love that Zum. I am blessed with two Zums, a 93 and an 03. They are easy to make changes on.
I hope you keep your Sho-Bud. I had one just like yours and in a moment of weakness sold it.

Since this horn will be crossing the Waters i want to make sure about doin' the changes myself.
it's being changed from Day to Emmons before it leaves but i'm sure i'm gonna want to try a few changes

There is information on re-rodding a Pedal Steel Guitar on the Carter website.
Click on "Steel Guitar Information Resource". There is a blank chart to print out also.

Well the Zum arrived today after havin'left Tejas 5 days ago
the Customs were out to lunch but Fedex was'nt

they made me pay Customs fees ! 275 $

now fer the good part
i reckon i got lucky considerin' that i got this Baby on ebay. i have yet to find anything wrong w: it
it was a breeze to set up and tune.
then i let this baby get comfortable after such a voyage and went home for dinner.
upon my return, i began exploring and discovering this Zummy.
Well it is definitly a mechanical improvement compared to my ShoBud Professional.
Stays in tune, does'nt seem to have as much cabinet drop. string spacing is less wide.
it's got a George L on E9 which sounds quite good. on the other hand the single wound pu on C6 does'nt cut it.
so the Zum has what the Sho Bud does'nt have
and vice versa.
deep down inside i know i prefer wood to metal and the warm sound it has.
so i'll just have to keep both of 'em !
my next adventure consists of figuring out how to change the PSU/Copedant.
if i get in a jam i'll ask y'all 4 some help

my friend in France. I just finished a U12
Zum and these guitars are a credit to Bruce
Zumsteg. If you give me a fax I'll pass on
a bell crank and changer hole diagram that
will work for your E9 that Bruce sent me with
parts I ordered. You will love your Zum.

Chuck my fax is not working at the tambien - (time being)
can you email it ?
i spent some time this morning figuring out the mechanics on this Zummy and i was'nt put off.
i switched the A and C pedals around no prob
(Day to Emmons)
Looks like it's all in the "fingers"
the whole trick is to get the fingers out so i can place them elsewhere.
in order to do that i gotta get the rods out.
so basically it's a rerod job Right ?
Then i'm gonna have to modify 2 KLs.

Well i managed to change the knee levers around so everythang is A-OK
i wish to thank you all again for your help and support.
one last question : since the C6 pu is a single coil and hums could i replace it w: a BL710 or a double coil True Tone ?

The '96 Zum uni I just got needed some new changes to get my setup. I had to add a LKR and move the LKV and LKL. With a little careful drilling of new screw holes, this came off okay. I also had to add several new pulls to existing pedals and knees. Bruce sent me the new kind of bell crank. This is one of the most convenient and easy to change bellcranks in the business, and I wish I could change all of mine. I continue to believe that Zums are one of the best thought-out pedal steels in the business, and also one of the best looking.
