To answer the peak limiter question, no there is no peak limiter. The Limiter section on the amp is controllable and will only limit the amplifier going into to distortion based on gain level settings and relative limiter settings.
We will do a thorough look at the amp when we get it in and let everyone know what we discover.

Steelaire overview

Post by Steve Spitz »

On the Quilter website, click on " steelaire overview " the factory rep , sitting with a telecaster, goes over every knob, showing how each one affects the sound. He does touch on the function of the limiter. My apologies if you've been there, done that.

The feature where you describe the volume pedal becoming very sensitive at the last part of its travel remind me of the "sensitivity" controll on a WEBB. I have to back it down a bit to eliminate the "hair trigger" feel to the volume pedal. It's exactly as you describe.

Maybe someone will take a look at the site and offer something more useful.

amps

Post by Billy Carr »

Karen, I noticed you mentioned a Fender Steel King amp also. I've had 3 or 4 FSK's and the first thing I do is replace the speaker with a 15" BW Peavey. Changed the amps tone and sounded great with plenty of power for a nice overhead. A 15" lightweight Neo speaker would probably be as good but lighter. Right now, my main amp for playing out/recording is a NV-400 with a 15" Neo speaker, 4 ohms. I hadn't tried the Quilter amp yet but I'll get around to it. Thanks.

What ever happened on this amp Karen? Did you ever send it back to Quilter and if so, what was the result?

i didnt end up sending it back. i think i was just not used to it also the on/off adjustment on my hilton pedal was set too low so there was not enough signal coming thru. i have been using the channel 1/2 setting which is also much louder than the single channel setting. I have come to love the amp and have not had any of the volume issues since making these changes.
