Is the finish on the Fender Professionals a white tinted lacquer? Or, a base coat white with clear on top? _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

Fender bought their paint, at least in the early days from a local auto paint shop. If you go to the fender web site there used to be a story about this, it might still be there. I restored a 60's Telecaster and a 64 mustang and the Luthier got the paint for both from a car restorer and they matched perfect. _________________ Die with Memories. Not Dreams.

Thanks Niels, I found the article. The early Fenders used nitro lacquer. Specifically, Fender used Dupont Olympic White. Nitro eventually turns yellow to give that golden look to the finish as it ages. Also, the weather checking, since it's a harder finish than Acrylic Lacquer. Good Info.
I've never been in Salinas, but I remember seeing the beauty of it lit up many times, looking down on it from the hilltops of the Ft Ord night training area. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |
