About 20 years ago, I bought an old Baldwin era Shobud in a second-hand store. It's a rack and barrel system. My problem is that it's a C6th guitar, and I want it to be an E9th guitar. It has 5 pedals in the middle of the rack. The rails underneath are castings, and they're mounted close to the changer end. Could I just move the whole mechanism closer to the tuner end, and modify the pedal rack? Are pull-rods and the brass barrels available anywhere? It has a dual-sound pup, and it's a beautiful old blond. I'd really like to use it. Can anyone suggest someone to do this work? Oh! Yeah, The neck wood wraps around the changer, so I don't think it's a good candidate for a Marrs-type conversion. Besides Duane says there's a 6 to 9 month wait. I have some pics, but don't know how to post them.

Sounds like it's a beautiful old C6 guitar (the rack-and-barrel is not bad with the C6 changes)though...could you trade with someone has an old E9 Bud?

Oh,,, maybe Bobby, 'cept I really like the way this old babe looks. it's kinda like me, shows it's age. It's got a pretty good ciggie burn on it. Some guys might want to refinish it, but I don't really mind. I just want it to play reasonably well. Not too worried about how it looks. I think it would sound great.

The rack-and-barrel system is pretty easy to change around. Why not just leave the mechanics the way they are and, if you want standard E9, take the two right pedals off? I´ve seen pictures of single neck E9 ShoBuds from the same era and they also had the pedals more towards the middle, instead of far left. It should also be possible to add knee levers. Duane Marrs sure has plenty of original parts if you need them.

Regards, Joe H.

I may just give that route a try, Joe. But first, I gotta sell this GFI D10 and get my "music money" back in order. Money is just money, But "music money" is somethin' altogether different!
