I find this interesting for a couple of reasons.
1) I have the non-pedal version of this one. Same tuners, shape, pickup (only one, not two) but with a built-in speaker. The pickup is slightly micro-phonic and it sounds fantastic.
2) This could be a "lap pedal steel". It seems to be raise-only, but it might be easier to maneuver than a Duesenberg Multibender.
If I wasn't on expat assignment and already making plans to sell a ton gear that is gathering dust in a storage unit back in the the US, I'd probably jump on this.
Anyone ever played one? |

I've never come across a cable system steel, either. I do like the old Teisco pickup sound, though. Quite a bit. The "slight micro-phonic" pickup is probably an understatement, if my Spectrum and every other Teisco I've played from that era will indicate, but they are usually pretty low-output so they are very manageable. I think this would be fun as hell, especially to play some dung-kickin' Mooney-style, two feet on the pedals and floor it, type thing. Something like that. |

I believe it was MSA that sold a system that looked similar to this that could be attached to an electric guitar to simulate a pedal steel sound. If memory serves me correctly, there was a forum thread on this gadget several years back. |
