We've got Scott Martin for our September club meeting. Scott has played (Johnny Rodriguez, Tanya Tucker, Freddy Fender) and engineered (Hoyt Axton, Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin) with the greats. We got lucky when he moved out here... it's been over a year since he played for us, so I'm looking forward to hearing him again. Scott is dragging along his buddy Greg Harris (Flying Burrito Bros) on vox and 6-string, should be great!
We're at our normal venue:
290 West Club
12013 U.S. 290W
Austin, TX 78737
(512) 288-0808
... and our normal time: jam at 2pm, Scott at 3pm, jam after Scott. Our personnel should be:
Jerry Motely guitar
Charlie Irwin bass
Ron Erwin drums.
If you want to play, bring a steel. If you have something to sell, bring it... if you want to buy something, bring money. The bar has great burgers and drinks... no admission, but we'll be shaking the tip jar to help our backup band pay for gas etc. Y'all come! _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

Here's a FB event Rose created... it has more info on Scott... he's quite the guy! Pictures of Scott and Greg Harris too. Thanks Rose... hope Nashville was good to y'all.

"SCOTT MARTIN began playing pedal steel in 1969 and played with groups including Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Country Joe McDonald, Freddy Fender, Tanya Tucker, Johnny Rodriguez, etc.
In 1977, he opened his first studio and focused on engineering. That led him to Nashville where he worked in the studio with Hoyt Axton, Mark O'Connor, Bill Monroe, Steve Winwood, Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin, Lloyd Green, Tommy White, Bruce Bouton and others. "Even though I was engineering and wasn't playing that much while living in Nashville, my exposure to great players made a huge impression on the way I play today."
Since moving to the Hill Country in 2000, he has had the opportunity to work with Joel Guzman, Kirk Covington, Mike Blakely, Redd Volkaert, Chuck Pyle, Gary P Nunn, McKay Brothers, Darcie Deville, Cornell Hurd, Bill Chambers, Peter Rowan, Pauline Reese, just to name a few.
SCOTT MARTIN is our featured artist this month at the Austin Steel Guitar Coop monthly jam, Sunday, Sept. 21, from 2-5pm at the 290 West Bar & Grill, Austin, TX. He's bringing Flying Burrito Brother GREG HARRIS with him to play on his set. Come enjoy some progressive country music and an afternoon of steel guitar!" _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

Stephen, A prior committment prevents me from getting up to Austin to check out this amazing line up. I'm sure everyone will have a great time.
Already looking forward to the November road-trip. _________________ Proud member of the San Antonio Steel Guitar Association (www.facebook.com/satxsga) |
