Much thanks! I appreciate it. It's hard to go wrong with a song like this... it's an interesting melody, interesting chord changes, minor mode, kind of exotic. And the Guyatone sounds surprisingly good. Jerry Byrd recorded this on his "Satin Strings of Steel" album, and it's always been one of my favorite JB tunes. Thanks again.

Ooooh...that one made my day! I don't think I've ever heard this song before. It almost has a Gary Brandin - Vanduras - Blue Hawaiians vibe, but of course it preceeded those by decades.

Yeah, I love the tune. It conjures up exotic old images of Gypsies, Spain, adventure, mystery... in my mind anyway! It was the theme song for the movie "Golden Earrings", 1947.

Here's a vocal version by the great Peggy Lee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWnVg5eidq8

Hi Bosse, yes, this one will be in the new book. I was hoping to have it ready for December, but as usual, I'm behind schedule. So it will be a couple of months after that. Thanks for checking in.

Doug, that was just wonderful !! As always, great touch and tone...the first time I remember hearing this song was on a recording by the great jazz guitarist Johnny Smith...his version was great also.
Thanks for posting and I look forward to your new book ! I will put it on my Christmas list for sure and get it when it comes out !

Thanks Larry. I'm impressed that you know this song from years ago. I first heard it in the 1970s on a JB album that was recorded in 1962. I always wanted to learn it and record it, and I finally got around to it 40 years later! I tried it a few times on pedal steel, but could never get the right tone for the song until I tried it on straight steel. Thanks again.

Great job on that tune Doug. That Guyatone has fabulous tone.

You weren't kidding about the wobbly legs......either that or you played during 2 minutes worth of minor earth tremors.

Laughing yes, the 3 legs are thin, and I play kind of aggressively with a heavy vibrato sometimes and that causes the guitar to wobble. And the camera was placed right next to the guitar. Guyatone probably should have put four legs on these consoles. I guess they were trying to keep the costs down.

Thanks, Andy. Lately I've been noticing that all of my steel guitars shake a little bit when I play them... even my pedal steel. I think it's because I'm an aggressive player (so I've been told), and I'm left handed in everything I do except the guitar. Hence the 'determined' bar vibrato.
