That's a neat looking ZB. I did that to a D-10 and turned out great. It's a job putting modern undercarriage under one but mine turned out fine. There's a picture of under that ZB help heading about a page or two from end.

Phillip, it's your guitar and you can obviously do whatever you want with it. If it was my guitar though, I would not replace the top or the neck.

The top is the sound board and thus is a big part of the mojo creating that legendary ZB tone, as is the neck. Plus, the top and the neck are probably 50+ years old and nicely aged with all those good string vibrations over the years.

If you do go ahead and replace the top or neck, I'd suggest you keep the old one someplace safe in case the new one doesn't sound as good. Smile

Thanks guys for your input. I will save the old top and neck, but they were a one piece neck ond top, covered with a shiny black eggshell like mold over pine wood. Actualy I think maybe the hard maple body would give more sustain..I dont know, time willtell

Hi Phillip, I would not change the top and neck. It is very aged wood and you will lose that oringal sound. If you do change it out, put it in a drawer in your bedroom. Looks good and good luck. J.R.

Pine is still pine, no matter how much it is aged. I would go with the new maple top and neck. That is going to make a nice little guitar when it's completed.
