Why are C6 pickups so frequently wound to a higher impedance than their E9 counterparts ???

Inquiring minds want to know...

Kevin, back in my younger days it seems that everyone wanted a boomier, full sounding C6th. I for one no longer feel that way. I prefer the C6th bass strings to have some bristle to them so I use the same pickups on both necks.

Mickey was talking of using w LIGHTER pickup to give better definition to those bottom strings

Remember when I purchased my first Carter D-10 in '96, they came equipped from the factory with a George L 'E-66 (wound to 17,5K) on the E-9, and the '10-1' on the C6, (wound to 18.5 I believe). Bobbe Seymour suggested that if I reversed the two that the tone would improve on both necks.

I subscribe to a lighter winding on the C6 for string separation / clarity of chord construction, as Lane described. I continue to be happy with my choice.
