Marty Stuart & the Superlatives last Friday
I got to see Marty Stuart & the Superlatives last Friday in Omaha, and they were awesome! The only thing that could've made it better would be if Gary was there too, but I must say, they didn't miss a beat, and there was nothing missing in the show.
It's nice to go see a show where the musicians, can play & sing well, don't need huge amp stacks, and the PA isn't set to stun.
Just thought I'd take a moment to Testify!

Mostly junque with a few knick-knacks that I really can't do without!

I don't think I'm that easy to please. I can't get interested in a country show without a steel. I know Marty probably does a lot of more modern music on his road gigs. If he doesn't recognize the importance of having a steel in the band, I don't have any money to spend to watch his show. I like Marty as a person and I enjoy his mandolin picking with the Sullivan's, etc... but no steel on a country show doesn't interest me. I assume he didn't have a fiddler either?Jerry Hayes wrote:They don't need a steel..... Marty plays enough Ralph Mooney licks on Clarence White's old B-Bender Telecaster to make me happy.......JH in va.

Marty & the boys are classic honky tonkers. That Kenny Vaughan is a monster guitar player.
I've always been mightily entertained by those guys. Their musicianship and harmonies are (dare I?) superlative.
The "real deal" as we so often like to say.

Seen Marty in Lancaster Pa along with Connie. Was a terrific show with Connie and her band. Then Marty with the Superlatives came out and had Gary Carter sit in for quite a few numbers. Then he had Gary play some instrumentals, and the crowd loved it. Got to talk to Marty before the show and he said he loves steel and like traditional country. I don't post too much. Not a real big talker, but I have been a member of steel guitar forum since 1999. Steeler myself! ShoBud and Emmons and Fessy. Jim

Marty and band are pretty darn good, ...some might say awesome. Not only can they play, but they can sing too. As much as a steel fanatic as I am, I say, if they're playing anywhere near you, GO TO THE SHOW, then form an opinion on whether the must have a steel in the band. I'm a big fan of Gary Carter's, ...love him on the TV show, ...but I think he's a "loaner" from Connie when these guys get him.
Best,

Thanks John, I realized that only after I watched a couple of videos.
Good musicians.
I have an old mandolin book with a 'youthful' picture of Marty playing with Lester Flatt.
I also saw some other videos of Marty playing mandolin. He is a versatile musician and the guitar player too.

Jan. Thanks for posting Gary Carter playing that song.
I always love what he plays. He plays like Weldon.
I don't see the show anymore, because I can't afford
to pay $85 a month to DirecTV to watch 3 or 4 chanels.
When your old & retired, you have save save your $$$.
