I think it's gonna kill all unwanted overtones, and,,, it will keep the audience at arms length. No one will even come close. I'll definately have to wear sunglasses. I'm lookin' for a nice, clean 52 Tele so I can do it's top in the same material. Matchin' pair ya know. |

John,
I remember a while ago reading a thread where there was mention of pedal steel players always being in the background, and when they play Black steel's , it put's them even further out of the picture...When I see your color sample I think of that thread ,and how you REALLY did something about it !!...Very refreshing !!!...Sincerely, Jim |

That depends on whether you plan to make jokes about it... |

I now realize from your post there were some "jokes" made referring to that guitar but actually I almost bought it myself at the St. Louis show in 2000 so "No" jokes from me, Im curious because I, too have an order placed with Bruce and I actually like this color scheme not sure if I'll go with it as Im still waiting to hear from Bruce to see what is actually available color wise, by the way I like the Butterfly effect and not because Im from Hollywood either..

Thanks Billy. Yes, this was Gary Steele's purple Zum of abominable memory. The butterfly is actually a sticker my daughter gave me that just happened to match the colors of the guitar perfectly.
This guitar was originally an S 12 E9/B6 U but I chopped it into a 10-string E9 rock tuning. It has some aspects of the sacred setups, no 9th (D) string, an E on the bottom and best of all, no C pedal. Words can't describe how I hate the sound of that C pedal. I put the Franklin drop on the third pedal so it's right next to the standard B pedal making those movements really smooth and sweet.
Somebody was asking in another post about how easy or difficult it is to modify a Zum. Answer: ridiculously easy. The mechanics are so clean and accessable it only took a short afternoon's work to modify it and very little tweaking to get it all right and comfortable. And I'm generally terrible with tools - can't even wire an outlet. The Zum is an elegantly designed piece of machinery. |

I sure try my best..... Gotta make a note here about Bruce. What a guy. When I bought this steel recently it was a Jimmy Day setup. I have played Emmons setup for 25+ years. I was nervous about changing over. With Bruce's help it was easy. Bruce is one of the nicest guys I have ever talked to. He never hestitates to take the time needed to help. Again! What a guy.... Hi James, That is a sharp steel. James i have a brand new Zum D-10 8+6 that is beautiful and probably sounds as good as any ever made, Atleast that is what several has said. I have a new Millennium coming in about a month. If i like it i will probably sell this Zum. Maybe a few of the guys will tell about it. A guy named Sonny here in my area would like it but i told him it would probably be available before long but i think he has a new steel that starts with an E and i dont know if he can work it out. If anyone buys it from this thread we will take care of the Forum. Thanks, much, Gary |
