MAN OF STEEL project
___________________________MAN OF STEEL project.
I just finished this 8 string Baritone lap steel guitar with a 28 inch scale. The body is made by George Boards.
I installed the GB bridge right at the end of the guitar and I inserted a block of wood in the keyhead section,
just to move the nut further away from the bridge to get a longer scale.
The (mutilated) pickup plate I got from a forum member and the pickups are new, but I can't remember
who I bought them from. They were cheap but they sound wonderful. There is space for another pick up.
The finish is black hammertone, which I used to hide any surface imperfections.
I used the MAN OF STEEL theme for the fret board markers.

Dom - I understand that this is one of yours from 12 years ago. I added the Sho-bud fretboards and logo.

First attempt
I had a bunch of mahogany left over from building my kitchen I decided to put it to use
I seem to like to rest my pickin' paml on something so I used a piece of Birdseye maple for the palm rest.
The fretboard is Paduk with maple fret and position markers.
Just in case some flaming YAhoo tries to steal my baby, I took a page out of the old west and branded the back with what I call the 'rocking A' That's a piece of Koa for the electronics pocket.
And finally for the headstock I added a piece of silverwork I made years ago with Red Coral and Lapis Lazuli. The nut is a piece of cast bronze out a local bar rail.
Thanks to all who have made this forum so user friendly ... cheers, miller

Here is mine I built out of African rosewood. The cover plate is African Blackwood and the pickup frame is warthog tusk.
It still shows the plastic fretboard, but I have since changed it to an ebony fretboard with bone frets.
I wanted it to be bright red, but I struggled for weeks and eventually settled for whatever it turned out. The wood cost me about $25 and the case about $10.
Also a picture where I played it in a folk band with Chuck Lettes tuning.
