I want to add a delay to my rig. I took a DD3 off of my guitar pedal board the other night for my steel rig. Sounded great, but it gets kind of messy since I'm using a Korg Rack tuner. I had to run power to it and set the pedal kind of on the corner of the rack where I could reach it by hand.
On the other hand, a rack unit would be a little more organized if I'm going to stay with the rack tuner, but there aren't many rack FX units made these days. I was thinking about about the Peavey Dual DeltaFex. Has anyone here tried one?
What do you think? Any other good rack units out there? Do any have tap tempo for the delay?
Pedal or rack? What do you suggest? |

I HATE delay, haven't once heard a delay on steel that makes me say "Oooh! I want that sound!"
But this unit has good delays and I love the reverbs it has: when I run Peavey, this is my reverb.

You didn't say what the rest of your rig is: this is one of very few Lexicon units that can run on instrument level. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Check out the Mojo Hand Effects Mirror Ball Delay. It's the smoothest sounding delay I've heard in a long time. You'll love it with steel and guitar - and it's got true bypass which Boss pedals do not have
Edit: just noticed the part about rack mounting. Have you looked at the old yahmaha and ibanez rack mount analog delays? _________________ Milkmansound.com |

I have 2 Walker S/S amps and I have a Lexicon MX-300 on one
and a Lexicon MX-400 on the other. These give the sound I like.
I found just 1 beat of delay with just a small touch of vibrato or
chorus gives me that nice full sound with unbelievable sustain. _________________ aka "Lucky Kay"--Custom built Rittenberry SD10 3X5, Walker S/S, NV-112, and Hilton Pedal |

Oh c'mon... Not even Witches Brew? (Or better yet, that live bootleg that was floating around limewire) |

I'm curious as to why you hate delay. I'm new to steel, but not new to playing music. I've used delay on guitar for years to fatten things up, or give extra "sustain" on ballads. I've played with steel players that have used it and I thought it sounded good. Not trying to argue, just give my 2 cents.
My rig- is a Derby D10 (Tommy White pickups) into a Nashville 400. |

I haven't looked for those 2 specifically. The last unit I used on guitar was a Rocktron Replifex, which I sold a long time ago. A friend loaned me a Rocktron Intellifex but I'm not really liking it. |

Basically I dislike it for two reasons:
1: it kinda screams early 90s, in the way that chorus screams early 80s.
2: guitars don't do microtonal bends like steel does. You hit a note, move a pedal, the note starts to move, and BAM, here comes the old note, nuking the subtlety. I just don't dig it.

I use delay almost 100% of the time. I use the Digitech RP155 for effects. Always delay, sometimes reverb, which is set to a lower level than the delay. The RP155 delays are excellent, with a full range of adjustments. I usually set it for 0 repeats, 220-270 ms. Set this way, you don't get a bunch of echos, you get what like to think of as a "clean" sounding reverb. Most actual reverbs introduce a lot of extra noise that degrades the sound, in my opinion. I've used many different effects, the Digitech units are some of the best I've tried. |
