Windows Explorer in Win7 really SUCKS. Every time I open a folder, that folder usually drops to the bottom of the screen and I have to use the scroll bar.wheel to get it up to where I can see it. Is there a way to stop this crappy behavior?

Also, when I have it open, it will, on it's own, re-open the Desktop and Libraries sections
that I have already closed and shoves all the folders on any drives I have open down past the bottom of the screen.

And yet another thing that bothers the crap out of me. Is there a way to specify what "view" the folder opens in? Don't say to open the properties for the folder and select the types of files I want it optimized for. That does absolutely nothing. I want the folder to open in "list" view. They always open in "details" or some type of large icons or a filmstrip looking icon.

I have searched High and Low in Control Panel, and haven't found anything. It seems there should be a way to cure these "mistakes" made by the Microsoft Dumb $#!t$.

I have a Windows 7 desktop and a laptop and neither exhibits those behaviors. When I select a view I prefer, it always opens in that view. After I disabled the "Folders" view, with the left sidebars, it stayed in classic Explorer windows. Control Panel stays where I last used it, whether as large or small icons, Classic view, or as groups of related items.

Your operating system files, or part of the HKCU, or HKLM Registry may be corrupted. Have you tried running SFC /Scannow ?

You set the global folder options in Control Panel - Folder Options, not in Windows Explorer itself. From there you can choose what to view and how to view it. Don't forget to click "Apply to Folders" to make it stick.

I've always just used the "Organize" tab and all the options it offers inside Explorer. I think Richard just needs to change some settings in the View tab of Folder and Search Options.

I'll check that out. It happens identically on both of my computers. One of them is a fairly new, fresh install.

How did you do this? I think Classic view is what I want. I'm just not finding anywhere to make the changes you mentioned.

I am running Win7 Professional on my desktop and Win7 Home Premium on the laptop. Don't know if that makes any difference, because they both act the same.

Thanks Jim. I will try those out later tonight. It will sure be nice if I can get rid of that source of frustration.

Thanks again Jim. That appears to have done it. Every folder I have opened to test it has come up in list view.

[b]It is OK to close this if you want.[b/]
