I made some george L cables, and even tho the little light is coming on when I test them with the George L tester, they are making a horrible noise when plugged from my steel into my amp. same noise as if there was no instrument plugged in and i put my finger on the end. it's not happening with all the cables I made, just a few. any ideas ?? they are the straight end cables. thanks in advance _________________ Emmons, Franklin, Mullen |

I would just cut off a 1/4" and try it again. Make sure your cut is straight and not pinched. Don't over tighten the little set screw. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

Do what Rick says. Along with not over tightening the ground screw, make sure you tighten it enough. I had problems because I didn't tighten them enough and had no ground. And make sure the cable is shoved in far enough. Another thing I always do after cutting the cable, is to take my finger and go around the cut end and "bend" the shield away from the inner conductor. That way their is no chance of getting a stray piece of the shield making contact with the hot wire (which has happened to me many times before I started doing this). _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Karen,
After inserting the cable into the connector, I tighten the set screw enough to make an impression in the insulation. I then loosen the set screw, remove the cable, and use a sharp knife to cut away most of the insulation inside the impression. I reassemble the cable. I've had no problems with GeorgeL's cables since I started doing that. Good luck. |

Isn't there two sizes of GeoL stuff? Maybe have the big connector on small cable? _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus! |
