Feet on the C6 (maybe for BE)

Post by Michael Haselman »

In my continuing quest to master C6, my feet seem to be getting tangled up. I'm going through BE's course, and some of the things he's doing HAVE to be done with 2 feet, especially rocking off the 8 pedal onto the 7th, or using pedals 7-5, etc. He doesn't address this in the course. My question is, does he always hit the 7-8 pedal with the right foot or sometimes or...? Do some of you C6 players never use 2 feet?

I play a U12, but when in "6th mode", I almost always use 2 feet. Left hits 5 and/or 6, right hits 7 and/or 8. Often hit 5,6, and 7 together. Need 2 feet for that....

I'm sure glad some of you experienced '6th players have chimed in here..

I use my right foot for pedal 8 and the left for all others..

I have been approached by a few at shows that suggested I was wrong..I just agreed and kept on doing what I am doing..

I find using my right foot is very natural..the only issue is I have to be sure tht I am not getting wacky with the volume pedal..but like anything else..it just takes
practice.

Lately I have been spending gobs of time with 6,7 and 8..I am in total awe as to how much music is down there...

nice thread..

My feeling is,to get the most out of the C6th you need two feet. I have always used both. Pedals 4,5,6,7,8 and RKL.You'll love it.

Carl: do you always use your right foot for pedals 7-8?

Michael,
Not always, it all depends on what I'm playing. Various chords require that combination. There are so many good chord structers using pedals 5,6,7,8 along with the RKL at times both feet are needed.

Do you guys do this one? You're on a diminished chord but the melody note is one whole step above the chord tone. Hit pedals 5 and 6 with the left foot to get the diminished. Then hit pedal 7 with the right foot to get your melody note for a three pedals down sound. Great chord!! BW

Billy,
Since the majority of C6 copedents have a D note on top, then you get that melody note with pedals 5,6 and the 1st string. No need for 3 floor pedals.

I was watching Doug Jernigan's feet real closely this last weekend in Mesa,AR. His left foot was very fast and nimble between all pedals including P8. He would also occasionaly use two feet. At least that was the case durring one tune. I cant remember if it was fast or moderate.
