Peterson iStrobo tuner app...

Post by Steve Wood »

Hello All,

I'm having trouble with my Peterson iStrobo tuner app for the iphone. Lately the display seems to go haywire when I try to tune, as though it's getting a ton of noise distraction.

I've tried everything, rebooting it, ensuring I'm picking only one string, etc. but even sitting at rest it picks up signal. Anybody?

FWIW, it's a few years old now, and I've not had any trouble before. The input cord might be the problem?

Troubleshooting step: use the phone's mic and see if it continues.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

I had that App on my iPhone5 but dumped it. I never used it and Cleartone is much better. Cleartone can be programmed with the Newman settings.

Also, compared to my Peterson Tuner and the Cleartone, the iStrobo tuner is off. I did some testing and sent the results to Peterson about a year ago. I sent them some data on how far off it was, they requested some more and that was the last I heard from them. Although I bought the Peterson App I've since uninstalled it.

The App tunings were off whether I used the mic in the iPhone5 or an adapter I had that I could plug in my steel direct.

Go to the iStore and check for an update... normally they're free (you paid good money for the app).

I'm interested in which interface (to the phone) you're using... do you have the white Peterson cable?

Thanks all!

I used the phone mic, and while less fussy, it seems like maybe it's a cord problem...I am using the white Peterson Factory cord I bought separately. Maybe it has just been bent in my carry all too many times.

Jack, that's interesting...I think I may go back to the old Ear tuning. So hard in some environments, though!

thanks gang.
