I've purchased two different guitars from Jim over the past 3 years, a Rains SD10, and a year or so later, a Mullen D10. I've had a great time trying to learn how to play because every bit of my energy has been focused on being able to learn to play instead of having to be concerned with trying to figure out what might be wrong with my guitar(s). Both of the guitars were clean, shined, and maintained, as Jim described them and have performed flawlessly since the day I took them out of the case. I've not had any issues, whatsoever, with either of the guitars. If Jim puts something on the forum to sell, my experience has been that it's exactly as Jim describes it.

Maxtone Mod's

Post by Dan Burnham »

Guys,
Maxtone Mods on any guitar will improve sustain and eliminate overtones. We offer the maxtone mods for anybody wanting it on their BMI. I'm not the only one that agrees, Reese Anderson, Bob Hempker, Steve Wilkerson, Vern Mandrell and many others have heard the difference. Many builders have tried to buy the information from Tommy, I know, I've been there when they tried. I recommend it for anyone wanting to improve their existing sustain.

Emmons S-10D & mods

Post by Billy Carr »

This guitar is ready. Nothing to rework or repair here. I've sat down behind several of the guitars Tommy Young has modded. I've always considered the mod, an enhancement for any guitar. 2875.00 is a steal on a steel here. I've seen the proof about TY's mods. He's a pro and knows his business. Take this little red jewel and put it side by side with any S-10D anywhere, anytime and it'll stand on its own for tone/sustain. This is easily a 3500.00 guitar. Jim is very picky about his guitars and won't settle for anything but the best. The buyer will be impressed. If I were in the mood to buy a guitar, I'd already gone to Meridian to get it but I'm currently playing Excel guitars. Jim & TY are straight forward and you won't find any bs with either player.

Tommy Young wrote:Peter there arent any VOODOO stories to see just ask the Pros that are using it on their guitars my friend. I have done this to many guitars over the years sorry u dont have the knowledge to know that BMI steel guitars is now using this on all their PRO MODEL guitars. If it were VOODOO they wouldnt have it as an upgrade option thanks TOMMY....

TY's work

Post by Billy Carr »

Arguments were made a long time ago for/against the Max-Tone. Now here today it( Max-Tone), still stands and TY's skill as a machinist is excellent. Fact is, until a player actually sits down and plays a guitar with a Max-Tone added, he/she won't see the difference. Tommy has the best sounding guitar I've ever played. A D-10 blue mica Mullen w/mod. I played it at a steel show in Fulton, MS. a few years ago and it's a bad, bad boy! There's a story with that but I won't get into it now. See the difference at a steel show where TY is selling his products/playing. Thanks.

Rick, the red S-10D Emmons is one of the best guitars I've seen. I'd say it's even better than a new one. We're still praying for Jimbo. Thanks.
