Question for telonics people

Post by Matt Butner »

I currently have the telonics 84 pickup and am getting distortion when I dig into the strings. Is this normal for this pickup? It does it on all amps and more so at lower volumes. I have to be easy on the strings at low volume so this doesn't happen. Any advice appreciated.

If you can adjust the pickup height, lower it.
You might find not only that it distorts less, but the tone might get sweeter.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Thanks guys, I have adjusted the pickup height and that has helped tremendously. It seems the screws that mount the pup had backed out and was way to close to the strings. I even called telonics and received the best customer service I have ever experienced. Steve walked me through everything and sure enough it was the height of the pup. I am learning tons of information about the steel thanks to you guys.
