I am looking for the intro to farwell Party in "D"
I have the rest of the song but no intro
If somebody can halp I would be graiful

I found 3 intro's to farewell party. Year 1967 by Johnny Bush with Jimmy Day on steel, 1979 by Gene Watson with LLoyd Green on steel and 1999 by Allan Jackson and it doesn't list the steel player.

Take a look at all 3 of them and pick the one that fits your ear best. I don't believe any are in the key of D but just move the intro up or down the neck to your key.

and Royce said go down 2 frets if it is in E

Paul, I take it you didn't go to the site John Bresler suggested.

John has even taken the time to list the years to enable finding them easier. There are audio clips posted there that match the tab.

Another thing you can do is go on youtube and type in "farewell party pedal steel" with the quotes and you'll have tons to listen to.

You'll hear and see different ways to do the same thing.

That's what makes the pedal steel so cool, the same thing can be played in at least 3 different positions.

I went to the site John Bresler suggested. it is a good place to learn from.

I could only see it in "E"

I have to explain it I have a book from Billy copper,s
and CD of the song and the rhythm track,
it has bee written in " D " but there is no intro to it

Its is the first song I learn t, but has no intro
so I was looking for an intro in " D "
It was suggested ti have the "E" and take it back two frets..
But I found out if I have the intro in "D" OR even have in in "E" and go back two frets,

I have no music for it because the rhythm track because it starts where the main music starts
It looks like I have to start again with a different music
I am open to all offers

Paul, this is part of the problem of long distance instruction. It is not your fault or ours that there has been a bit of confusion. You've asked a question and we've tried to answer it with the information you've given us. I also have Billy Coopers instruction of the song " Farewell Party". Mine is in his book, "E9 Country-Volume 1, Pedal Steel Guitar Instruction by Billy Cooper". It is an exellent book aimed, I believe, at the beginning to early intermediate steel guitar student. It may not have been ment to teach the song to be used as back up to a singer, which would normally include an intro. The CD included with the book, does not include an intro for that song. It starts right in playing what the singer would be singing. I believe what your asking for is a backing track in the key of "D" which includes an intro. If that is true, someone here may be able to help you find that. Several poster, trying to help, have given you good info as to where to find very good intros to that song. The one I myself posted above, will work just fine in an on stage band situation. It will also work with a backing track, but maybe not all tracks. As also stated above, many intros have been played and will work with that song. I will go through my pile of stuff and see if I have something that will work for you. If I do, I will email you direct. Just a note, if you get a track in another key, there are many programs that can change the track to the key of "D". Paul I hope I've gotten this correct and not misread what you want... We are all trying to help.

Yes that is what I meant, But I have been given a couple but they have no backing, so I do the intro and them the song begins with backing were the singer would sing..I hope this makes sense, regards Paul

Paul, I have a backing track in Eb but I can change it and send it off to you. I have a tab for the intro and break but it's in E.

Email me at my email at the bottom of the post and I'll send the track off to you in the key of D.

If you want I can send you a track in the key of E as well.

That way you can use the tab and track in the key of E and when you learn it that way, as suggested, just drop everything you are doing back 2 frets and you will play the same thing but in the key of D.

I'm swamped right now with renovating or I'd take a stab at tabbing it out in D. Problem is I don't have a tab program.

Maybe Dick could email me the word tab and I can have a go at it if I get some time. Tabbing is not my expertise but it's pretty simple to just copy things down 2 frets.

Just one other thing... I mentioned some programs that will change keys for you on tracks. There are many, some free, some not, but I have found the program, "The Amazing Slowdowner" by Roni Music to be a very useful tool. It is flexable, to the point of even slowing something down, saving and emailing it, or up loading it to be downloaded and used by someone else.

Yes you and Keith have been so help full.
my health is coming now. two years a go I couldn't speech
I couldn't read couldn't All my music my keyboard music I could even read and the steel I had just a month,I forgot what ever I was learning.
I relay on the spell checker I had to start leaning all over a gain I can now read slowly and can type my speech comes and goes, but not to worry about that I am coming back,

I have been using VLC media to slow the music down but it dose not change the key so I will try what you suggested
I learned Farewell Party, playing along with the "CD" (not the backing track)
but now I will have to learn it with the backing track
this forum and the people are fantastic to give you answers.. Thank you all those people who answer

As I recall Mickey Adams has a nice intro lesson to that song but I think that it is in C or F. Easy to transpose.

Here is the intro from the Gene Watson version. Now, there is a mistake in this book. The 12ab to 13a should be 12ab to 15a. I'm pretty sure that is a mistake. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Just go to youtube and listen to how it is suppose to sound. The first lick to the verse is here also.
