The Love of a Steel Guitar
When I got married I had 2 wishes...
I wanted it at sunset
I wanted to walk down the aisle to Elvis' Can't Help Falling in Love - on the pedal steel. The steel player in the band probably thought I was a nutcase but he gave in and learned it for me and to this day it's one of the most beautiful renditions of the song I've heard. The wedding was a far greater success than the marriage but I do love the memories.. of the day anyway!
Always wanted to learn but everyone who tried to teach me failed (I'm just not THAT coordinated) so have to stick with my Lloyd Green albums and those bands still wiley enough to include the instrument.
So.. what's the weirdest request you've gotten from someone to play?

Wow, that sounds very familiar! I played "Can't Help Falling in Love" at my daughter's wedding as they walked down the aisle at sunset. Actually it was on a beach in Costa Rica, at sunset, and I played the song on regular guitar. For the recessional, I played "Here Comes the Sun", which was funny because the sun was almost down by that point. Great memories....at sunset... Multiple replies here... keep um coming ~
Explain yourself mister!! How the heck would you pull that off???
At first I think he hated me a little after my request... but from what I heard that night he really enjoyed himself... like I said, was just beautiful and as a purely instrumental piece even better..

A couple of years ago I was asked by my granddaughter to play a musical interlude at her wedding. I was to play whilst the happy couple were signing the register in the vestry.
I arrived early and set up my Rickenbacker B6 and Holy Grail Reverb through my Selmer Truvoice 6 watt valve amp. and my CD player.
I had decided to play Can't help falling, Let it be me, Aloha Oe, Beyond the reef, Song of the Islands and Sleepwalk. I must confess that I used Doug Beaumier's backing tracks but played in E major tuning and not C6 as I found it a little easier. Please don't tell him, you'll get me into trouble.
I can honestly say that I've never played nor sounded better, before or since. Perhaps it was the acoustics of a 200 year old church or just that special day. I just don't know.
Thanks Doug, you made our day.

A first year wedding anniversary
The bassman hollered, "I know a good one!"
He then began singing "It don't hurt anymore"
He then began singing "It don't hurt anymore"
I have played a couple of weddings and even a couple of funerals. I do not know if it is weird or not but I was asked to play "Last Date" three times on the same gig, the last time when we were tearing down and the man laid a $20 dollar bill on the stage. I told the bass player plug your bass back in.
