Hi folks,
Does anyone out here use a mesa boogie lonestar combo 100 /2x12 for pedal steel. Obviously great for guitar but was wondering if these are steel friendly.Comments please if possible ,and of course much appreciated.
Regards Dave.

Hi Dave:

Don't have that exact model, but I have a Boogie 1x12 combo and I find that it is way too voiced for 6-string guitar to sound good for steel. I really WANTED it to be good so I didn't have to lug a bunch of amps around, but for me it just doesn't work.

I don't know anyone using a Boogie combo amp for steel. But try it if you can, Your Mileage May Differ!

Mike

I have used one once, and I got it to stay clean. Unless you have different tastes than I, you'll need outboard EQ to get a pleasing gone

I used a mesa boogie nomad for a while.

One of the three channels does a passable imitation of a fender twin.

I think the mesa shadow speakers are voiced to much like celestions to make good steel speakers.

I suspect if you hooked it to a 15 black widow or an eminence neo speaker it might voice out ok.

Dave.. I have a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special and I'm more of a lead guitar guy. But, I have played steel through it on occasion and I have to agree with the previous post. It's just not voiced for steel guitar. Now.. At low volume I got some beautiful warm, rich tone with it but as soon as you start to push it to stage volume it gets harsh very quick... Just my opinion.
Keep in mind.. It's a "blues amp" just like my Hot Rod Deville and they do exactly what they are designed for. They break up early and have great tone for lead guitar but I feel they lack the headroom for steel. But... That's just my opinion.

Thank you gentlemen for the objective replies.Maybe I should look at another amp .
If you are reading this reply -has anyone tried a Peavey Valveking 100 2x12 loaded. They are a lot cheaper than a Mesa Boogie so where are the corners cut here. Are they steel friendly.
I love valves for guitar and am looking for double duty valve combo.
