Why do some guitar amps have open backs & some closed. Steel amps most of the time{I think} are open. I like open for the fact sound comes out the back & band members here me better.

I think the closed back cabinets are favored for bass cabinets.

Erv, Do amps like the Milkman & Roland Cube amps come open or closed backs? I know bass amps always come closed.

Like Tim said in the link. I recently renovated a Marshall Lead 12 combo that was missing the rear support. I built a solid back with an oval opening, and you won't believe the low end this little thing is capabile of.

After years of experimenting, having almost all the common steelstuff, I ran into these cabinets for a year now. To my ears the best I ever had, the Matrix Q12A powered cabinets. Loud and clean! And they sound alive!
