Like so many others have stated, Weldon was a steel guitar hero of mine too. Such an awesome player and person. So many great recordings and hit records to his credit. I just loved his playing and a kinder man you couldn't find. I'm very sad to hear of his passing.

May The Lord keep Weldon in his embrace now. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out for his family.

Sincerely,

Just now read this and Weldon was one of the greats of steel guitar!

I never knew him but loved and admired his playing for years. His "Pedal Man L.P." was just super in my opinion.

Another great one has left us! Prayers for his family and many, many friends.

Weldon Myrick was the reason I took up the steel guitar, we became friends over the last few years. He was one of the finest gentlemen I have ever met. Seeing him together with Judi, you could feel the love they had for each other. I know she took good care of my buddy till the very end. I love you and will miss you very much Weldon!

Very sad news indeed. His playing with Moe Bandy was the main reason I started on steel. RIP, my hero.

Over the years, I got to know Weldon, John Hughey, Hal Rugg, Jimmie Crawford and dozens more phenomenal steel players as a member of the NTSGA in Nashville.

Rest in peace, Weldon.

Such sad news!
For years I tuned in to the Opry every Saturday night just to hear Weldon work his magic on his Emmons. Such great touch and tone. I will miss him greatly. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out for his family.

Passing of Weldon Myrick

I approached Weldon one day and introduced myself as "the other Weldon." He merely smiled and was very friendly to this stranger. What a great musician and real gentleman.

This really hits me hard. It was Weldon's playing on the Rambo's album "Soul In The Family" that initially drew me into the world of steel guitar ... he's always been one of my great steel guitar heroes.

My sincerest prayers, thoughts and condolences go out to Weldon's family and to all his friends and those whose lives he's touched.

Unforgetable personality

Post by Chuck Cusimano »

I heard the name Weldon Myrick way back in 1973 when I asked someone who played the Steel Guitar on Johnny Bush's "Whiskey River".
Being raised on a ranch and going into the U.S. Navy, during a time when Musician Credits weren't printed on eight track Cassette tapes or on Album covers, there were a lot of questions I had about "Who played what"?
In 1976, I was on the road with Marty Martel and although my wife and kids were living in Lubbock, TX. I was living in Hendersonville working with Marty. When we were in town on a Friday night, I along with Bruce Brooks, went to the Grand Ole Opry, got in the back door and I got to meet Weldon. He was one of the nicest guys I ever met. (Same with Hal Rugg, and Leon Rhodes! What awesome people!!)
Weldon asked me where I was from and I told him that I had a wife, kids and a home in Lubbock and that I was, because of my job, Staying in Hendersonville. He told me he was from the Jayton, Texas area. and I told him, so was my Wife's father. (He was running a ranch in that area) Mr. Myrick told me he had been in Law Enforcement in Big Springs and we visited like we had known each other all our lives.
The next time I saw him backstage, a few weeks later, he came up to me and we took up right where we left off!
A few years ago I had the honor of playing Don Rich's part as a remake of the Buckaroos behind Buddy Allan Owens in Carthage, Texas when Buck Owens was put into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. (along with Ronnie Miller on Steel, Tony Booth on Bass and Danny Adams on Drums)
On that same show, the Whites were also inducted and they had brought Weldon Myrick and Leon Rhodes with them. I told Weldon and Leon that I had met them years ago, but didn't go into detail with all the sound checks and setting up that we had to do.
Weldon and Leon were standing in the wings when we were on and when I played the Don Rich Guitar lick on Act Naturally, they both gave me the thumbs up. It was one of the best feelings in my musical career to this day!!
To Weldon's Wife and Family, Friends and fans like me, I'll close saying, God never made a more gentle soul or a better musician, Steel player than Weldon Myrick!!
Prayers and hugs are in force.
They call it FILL 'cause it goes in the holes. Don't cover up the singer.
