a great play and more than that a great man - the last few years of his life he retired and moved to Tucson - I was helping building steel guitars down there and he would just drop in and I would be in school - He said one time with that Hal half a smile - you just keep askin questions - I said "I will only stop when I learn it all." then we both laughed and I said that was NOT going to be that day - later that night he came to my gig and at first I was scared the we took a break and he told the people with him I was a steel player from way back and was all positive - I made an announcement form the band stand thanking him for coming and for his kind words - he smiled and I was about to cry from joy (and fear) - the we did a song that he did in the studio (but I did not know that) after that set he told me and I almost fell over - his only comment was "good job" ------ great memories of a great man
I miss him a lot often

I think the licks that Hal plays on this song just shows a world of talent, that kind of playing is right up my alley, it's amazing! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

Hal Rugg, one of the best, and a heck of a nice guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him, and hearing him play in person on several occasions.

Never got to meet Hal, but he was one of my favorite steel players for sure. Loretta Lynn introduced him, I believe on the opry one time saying, "here's the best steel player in the world Hal Rugg". I think she might have been right.

I hear more Lefty Frizzell in this voice than steel guitar licks.

I love those words. As we all know, steel guitarists are a women magnet. |
