Are you sure, Erv? That looks like pretty heavy gauge wire compared to the plugs. _________________ Best regards,

mike: that was why i a am asking, the wire is about twice the diameter of a regular guitar cable. i think this came with a walker stereo system that i had one time, just made a lighter weight cable because it took so much space....thanks jack |

The picture of the end indicates a center wire and a ground wire. A speaker cable has two parallel wires of the same size. I am not a big fan of Monster cable, they are greatly overpriced and really not that good.
I think the "fatness" of the cable is just the exterior wrapping, and not an indication of the wire size. |

Well, from the picture, I see two wires of similar sizes, a red (hot) wire and a black (ground) wire which doesn't look like a shield. If the connector cover was pulled back further we could see it better.
Could you post another pic like that, Jack?...with the cover pulled back? That would probably solve the mystery. _________________ Best regards,

mike: what you are seeing is a heat shrink over the wire that looks like the positive wire.if i pull the wrapping back it would weaken the cable. but it looks like 2/wires that are alike....thanks jack |

From the vantage point shown in the pics, it looks like one wire is wrapped around the other. A pic looking at the end of the cable would make a better aid. If it has two parallel conductors, it could be a speaker cable: if they're concentric, then I wouldn't trust it, regardless of label. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Why not procure a couple mono phone plugs and solder on the desired length of common lamp cord. Just be certain the polarity matches. Quick, cheap and easy. And it'll work just as well as any $50.00 Monster cable at about one tenth the cost. |

leon: good to hear from you, i think the cable i hav e came with a walker stereo that i bought from bill cook a long time ago, i am pretty sure now that it might be speaker cable....jack: i already have a cable this is speaker cable Just thought this might work as a spare. 50.00 bucks don't matter as i already have it....thanks jack |

I believe that's a speaker cable. The jacket appears to be formed around the 2 conductors. Look carefully at the inner jacket where the wires exit. Also, the black conductor's solder connection looks large, as does the red conductor. That must be a speaker cable. _________________ Best regards,

mike: the red part is a heat shrink, but i do beleive that both wires are the same size, i don't have anything to measure the diameter of the cable itself, but i think it is about 7/16th....thanks jack |

Your answers to other queries sort of answers the question. If it is two separate wires with insulation ( colored plastic)around each individual wire, which you seem to refer to, it is a speaker cable. If it is a single insulated wire, with the other wires braided (several small wires)around the outside of the inside wire, it is an instrument cable. As always, I could be wrong! |

That pretty much sums it up, Brian. The main point being that the wires in a speaker cable must be large enough that they can safely feed a power amp's output signal to the speaker, and that there's no need for them to be shielded. _________________ Best regards,

...and the the not so main point being that the shielding itself presents a serious problem as well for high current applications. |

Looks like it has two equal (thick) wires and no shield. That's a speaker cable in my book. |

Plug a guitar into the input of your amp, using this cord, if it BUZZES, it's a speaker cord. If it's shielded, it won't BUZZ. |
