On a tour of the UK in '58-59 he had a 4 neck Stringmaster... and sold it to my friend from Alum Rock (B'Ham) Albert Green. I believe this guitar is still somewhere in the Birmingham area.
The Tuning set up of the stringmaster was MOST unusual AND had a little lever attached to the 1st string on the top neck which was tuned C6, (the lever raised the string 1/2 step) the bottom neck was tuned A6 DOWN an octave.2nd neck was set up for normal A6, and the third neck was E7.
Albert told me that Mr Rains was using a Fender amp and a device similar to an "Echoplex",also a Fender Tone and Volume Pedal.
Sadly Albert is no longer with us and I cannot remember anymore of the "Hoot Rains" set-up that albert bought from him on that tour of the UK when Slim was having #1's with China Doll,Indian Love Call and Love song of the waterfall.
