EBay GFI-Ultra D10 for $1875

Post by Joe Stoddard »

I'm looking for a pro-quality all-pull D10 in good condition. I'm a beginner so I don't want to spend a used car for a PSG.

I missed what I would consider the best deal I've seen in a long time- I'll let the "old pros" tell me if I'm wrong and why. Did you guys see the GFI D10 Ultra/Keyless listing on eBay? It sold yesterday for $1875. As far as I can tell that guitar would have been $5000+ new from GFI. A Pawn broker in Canada had it and put it up for auction at no reserve. I talked to the pawn broker via eMail, he sounded legit, and the instrument looked very new. Good pictures of the mechanism and it looked very clean. Apparently some guy pawned it and then never picked it up.

I stupidly tried to use eSnipe to grab it - but it didn't fire quite soon enough (set for 5 sec from auction end) and so I lost it. I set eSnipe for $2000, which is max I dare spend without my wife shooting me . Someone please tell me this must have been a stolen guitar, or was a piece of junk, and I am way better off without it anyway... I feel like deals like this never show up anywhere - I've been looking for over a year.

So I'm still without a D10. The other "Wanted to buy": Parts-Mechanism. I am an expert woodworker - I'd like to build my own (if not this time- some time b/f I'm 6' under) but I'd be happy to buy the changer, pedals etc. I'm not looking for glory - just a good guitar at a reasonable price.

For reasons not having much to do with the quality of the guitar, the resale value on GFI's is "fo shizzle." That one was a good deal, but not to die for.

Keep an eye on the "for sale" column here, and 2K should get you something pretty playable. And in an environment where I think the risk is quite a bit lower.

MSA D-10 8x4

Post by Lynn Stafford »

Hi Joe,

I'm going to selling a '74 MSA Classic rosewood mica D-10 8x4 on consignment soon. It's a one-owner and the guitar and case are in close to mint condition.

It was purchased new by a fellow in Klamath Falls, Oregon who passed away in 1984. It hasn't been played since and his son has finally decided to let it go. I plan to change the strings, detail it and do a set-up on it as soon as I can find the time.

Please let me know if this guitar might interest you. I believe it will be priced within your budget but shipping will be fairly expensive, as these guitars are fairly heavy.
Best regards,
Lynn Stafford

Hey Joe, check this GFI out. I think it's still for sale.
