The loss of Bobbe Seymour is HUGE!!! Gone are some incredible stories of the road & the stars of yesteryear. A whole bunch of steel guitar lore, history & knowledge disappeared :(

He was truly one of a kind & an invaluable asset to the steel guitar community.

Pick on Bobbe!!!

I've been fortunate to visit Nashville twice, to visit Bobbe's store in two locations, and to meet this very kind man on both occasions. Beyond his impressive musicianship he was a talented writer, and I am so grateful that he shared his many stories with all of us. In the end it's all about what you leave behind and what he left is considerable. I admired him and he lived a full life, and I am very sad for his family's loss and for ours.

My deepest condolences to Bobbe's family and friends.
In addition to all the steel guitar memories, I'll never forget the video of Bobbe and Phred getting that airplane started when it wouldn't start by itself. RIP Bobbe.

A shock to the system.
Bobbe gave me a great boost with his online videos.
Sold me my Fender Dual-pro and helped me along the way.
Another legend gone.

Jimmy Hodge & I were in Nashville 2/22 to 2/25 and wanted to go see Bobbe, but Vic Lawson told us Bobbe wasn't coming in to the shop. Jimmy said Bobbe helped him get in the "biz" and he eventually played pedal steel with Lil Jimmy Dickens for several years. I met Bobby in July 2011 while I was in Nashville for the NAMM show. What a great guy with so many really good stories. I always looked forward to his "Tips" column. What a blessing and an inspiration this giant was to so many people. RIP, Bobbe. You will be missed, my friend. My condolences to the family.

So sad to hear this. Bobbe used to live in my home town, up in Oklahoma. We worked in the same machine shop, but at different times.

My first pedal steel, was also his first.

The family is in my prayers.

I found this tribute on Gary Hayes Country

Steel Guitar Legend Passes Away

I write this with absolute tears and a heartbroken soul tonight.
There are THREE integral pieces to Country Music, the producer
the songwriter and the steel guitarist.
People like Andy Gibson (steel guitarist for Hank 3) that are
ALL THREE OF THESE are especially integral to it.

Yesterday I learned of the passing of Bobbe Seymore.
Hell I doubt that many other websites even KNOW who he was.
And I intend to tell you who and what he’s done for country music.
More So, Bobbe was a teacher and influence to other pedal steel players.
He opened Steel Guitar Nashville in his later years and published many
books teaching young people the ART of steel guitar.
But he’s done MORE for country music than that!

He came to us from upstate New York from a very huge musical family
and his uncle was a traveling steel guitarist. He was fascinated by
those stories.

He joined the Air force and was stationed in Texas and when he was
off duty his steel guitar talents were boasted about and he played gigs
with local bands.
After his service he played with Johnny Lee Wills and Hank Thompson.

He moved to Nashville and after only two days here he began to play
with Ferlin Husky and Jean Shepard who at the time was under his parental
rights being a minor so she could tour.
He went on to work with Stonewall Jackson and Claude Gray and Billy Walker.

In the 1950′s after the death of Country Music’s first big superstar
Hank Williams his band the Drifting Cowboys were carried by Country Legend
Ray Price. And when they parted ways Ray began his own backup band
the Cherokee Cowboys of which Bobbe was an original part of.
This was during Ray’s most pivotal point in his career during the Honky Tonk Era.

He eventually gave up the road in favor of playing on hit records and
became one of Nashville most sought after session people.
Both for his skill AND his ethics and good business behavior..he was well
respected among his peers.

For many years he played many master sessions weekly and kept
a fast pace. He is known for producing and finding Trisha Yearwood
Steve Wariner and Tracey Lawrence.
He later on went back on the road and became a part of The Working Man’s Band
for Johnny Paycheck.

At the beginning of 2012 he developed Spinal Stenosis which took away
his ability to walk and play steel guitar.
But he still instructed people on how to play..he never lost his style.
He passed away Wednesday evening in his home in Tennessee.

Heaven’s gates have certainly opened up WIDE to accept him into
their midst..I loved you Bobbe and thank you for all your stories
at the store.

I have not heard of any services as of this time.

I must say that Bobbe was an inspiration in most all I have done the past 12 or 13 years. In as much as learning to play steel and dealing in steel guitars and related equipment. His advice was invaluable and totally unselfish.
Some folks did not like Bobbe because of his humor they did not understand, however that was one of the things I LOVED about Bobbe. SUPER QUICK and he could take a punch just as well as give one. Not to mention the great talent and knowledge he posessed. I will truly miss Bobbe Seymour....Bobby Reed

Got a call today from Chad Udeen and while we were talking I just happened to ask if he knew how Bobbe was doing, he then broke the awful news to me.

Bobbe and I go way, way back, I'll miss the guy.

His youtube videos were always a great learning experience as well.He will be greatly missed.

What a surprise! Our emails and conversations
involved the subject of flying as much as
steel guitar. Such an enjoyable and entertaining
personality...a major loss to the steel guitar
community.

Very sad to hear of Bobbe's passing. The first time I met him was at his store in Goodlettsville I believe. I was looking for a Sho-Bud Packaseat. He said he didn't have one except the one he was using.
When I ask if he would sell it , He said "sure, why not" and dumped his stuff out on the floor and sold it to me. I still have it and think of him often when I'm using it.
He didn't know me but was very accommodating. My condolences to his family and many friends.

I've gotta say that Bobbe was the man who recommended a GFI to me for my second steel. I was at Steel Guitar Nashville in the spring of 2004, and I was looking at all these different steels, and he asked me what would be my second steel, I was thinking maybe an Emmons Legrande or a Sho-Bud Super Pro, but Bobbe said, "I highly recommend a GFI. So, in December of 2004, I was at the shop again and he had a Sho-Bud Super Pro, a Mullen Royal Precision, Emmons Lashley Legrandes, and quite a few GFIs. I was looking for a D-10 at the time, so first he lets me try out an Emmons Lashley Legrande, but I told him my left hand couldn't reach out to the E9th neck, then he put a red and gold GFI Ultra D-10 in front of me, and said "Try this out", so I was playing Christmas songs on the bottom neck, since it was December, and Bobbe looks at me and says, "You know what you're doing, don't you? and I said, "No, what?" and he said, "You're playing C6th" and at the time, I had no idea it was C6th. I went to Steel Guitar Nashville almost every time I went to Murfreesboro and Nashville.
