Well it is the final morning of the Dallas Show and almost time for me to start my drive down to Nashville. It was wonderful to see more people in the main hall last night, and at one point there wasn't a seat to be had.
It was nice to meet friends old and new. The Texas hospitality runs right through this event, and I would particularly like to thank Albert Talley, his family and the officers of the TSGA. They work so hard all year round to make this event an enjoyable and entertaining one for all.
It was sad to see Scotty there while obviously not enjoying the best of health. He still found the strength and will to climb onto the stage and roar on Doug Jernigan while he was playing OBS, as he has done for years.
One thing for sure - the standard of modern pedal steel guitar and non pedal guitars was higher this year than ever. There were some absolutely stunning guitars on display - it would be wrong to pick out any individual guitars, but those who were here for the weekend will know what I mean. The vendors were all helpful without being pushy.
One person who did stand out for me was Dave Beaty from Telonics. A complete and and utter gentleman, who helped me out in my hour of need. Thank you Dave, and it was a pleasure to meet you and your family.
To conclude, these steel guitar shows need attendees to enable them to continue, be they the large international shows or the smaller regional ones. Any of you who are in two minds as to whether to attend the steel shows or not, or if it is your first time - please support them. You will love it. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Thanks Malcolm.
I have arrived in Nashville - I had to pull over a few times for a break (I can't drive straight through like I could when I was younger).
I will have a sleep now, and will be able to see the Jumpers this evening, and Mike tomorrow night at the Station Inn. It certainly turned colder once I got to Tennessee. At 2.30 this morning when I pulled in for gas, the wind had a real bite to it.
Hope to see you later this year if I get to Scotland. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the comments on my set - really appreciated.
Best wishes

I saw that beautiful guitar of yours in the Show Pro room John. Ken well said mate, I thought the crowd on saturday night was huge !!
Thoroughly enjoyed your set on thursday night too mate, and on an unfamiliar guitar - outstanding effort.
Always good to catch up with my commonwealth brothers, although Scotland was a bit thin on the ground hehe...
I got my Zum and Telonics amp safely home without incurring any extra costs other than excess baggage too .... have a great time in Nashville mate and hopefully see you next year. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

Ken,I wish I could have been there this year to expound my alternative views. I have had a chat with Paddy and he says that you played an outstanding set. I missed catching up with all the usual Commonwealth lads and also the likes of Dave Beaty and Bruce Zumsteg who don't make much noise but just get on with what they do very very well. I will definitely be there next year so prepare yourself for some fun. |

Ivan
The Sheraton will be stocking up with beer over the next 12 months ready for next year's Jamboree in Commonwealth Corner. We will have to set about depleting their stocks. It's just a shame that Paddy can't hold his liquor. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Ken, that looks suspiciously like Ted "plain food" Nesbitt. I am already preparing myself for next years event. Unfortunately I don't drink which is why Paddy doesn't hold his liquor too well as he is drinking my share as well as his. |

Ivor tells me Ted is in bed suffering from shock after having to pay out ridiculous amounts to United Airlines to get guitars back. He should have let Ivor negotiate, he would have worn them down Tried Ted's Infinity at show, beautiful guitar and sounded just great through the Telonics combo. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

I don't know about Customs, but Ivor certainly wore me down. I must have had 50 odd lectures about tone from Ivor (the voice of experience). _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Surprisingly, I had some rather complimentary utterings from young Ivor about my playing -- I'm still checking to see if I wasn't actually dreaming at the time hehe !!
Ted -- it was Ivan who was commenting on your eating habits not me -- and despite the utterings from above, I don't have a drinking problem -- Now those Aussies on the other hand hehe .. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9
